								<description>San Francisco, California,  La Scuola International School is seeking a dynamic and collaborative IB-MYP Humanities and Language Teacher to join our Middle School team. This role is ideal for an educator who is passionate about inquiry-based learning, interdisciplinary teaching, and working in a bilingual, international environment. 
 At La Scuola, we value curiosity, creativity, and global citizenship. The successful candidate will teach students in grades 6&#8211;8 and contribute to a learning community grounded in the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme and inspired by our Italian roots. 
 Role &#38; Responsibilities include but are not limited to 
 
 Designing, planning &#38; implementing appropriate curriculum goals and long-term projects within the IB-MYP guidelines; 
 Setting educational and developmental goals for the students, both as a group and individually; 
 Preparing the environment (indoor and outdoor) so as to support the educational objectives/goals; 
 Establishing and maintaining a personal connection with each parent, student&#39;s family; 
 Documenting student progress and learning outcomes and communicating with parents. 
 
 Teaching and Learning 
 
 Plan and teach courses according to IB Middle Years Program guidelines. 
 Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners, including English language learners and students with learning needs. 
 Develop, enhance and document curriculum, while ensuring continued coordination and alignment within the IB Middle Years Program. 
 Connect English and Individuals and Societies curricula to other subject areas in a broad multidisciplinary approach. 
 Contribute to the development of Interdisciplinary Units, Experiential Learning, and Service Action. 
 Chaperone and facilitate experiential learning opportunities as needed. 
 
 Leadership, Procedural and Administrative Duties 
 
 Collect, analyze, and share annual student data with Pedagogical Leadership Team. 
 Collaborate with teachers in other grade levels on Humanities and Language inquiries. 
 Serve as a Community Project mentor for Year 3 students as needed. 
 Serve as a student advisor, provide scheduled supervision of students, participate in MS trips and field experiences, and engage in ongoing professional development.&#xa0; 
 Assist with the planning and implementation of the Grade 8 Experiential Learning trip to Italy. 
 
 Bachelor&#8217;s degree or higher in Education (or equivalent area of study) and / or California Teaching Credential;&#xa0; 
 Minimum of 3 years&#8217; experience teaching Middle School grades 6 - 8, preferably in a Language Immersion, Reggio Emilia and / or and International Baccalaureate (IB) accredited school; or 5+ years experience working with children; 
 Bilingual and bi-literate in Italian and/or Spanish and English with native or near-native proficiency.

 Familiarity and ability to plan curriculum within the Reggio Emilia Approach, Language Immersion models, and the International Baccalaureate (IB) Curriculum framework or inquiry/project-based learning; 
 Strong classroom management and organization skills that foster student engagement and collaboration;&#xa0;&#xa0; 
 Experience implementing Responsive Classroom and restorative practices; 
 Strong time management skills including consistent attendance, punctuality, ability to meet deadlines and participation in school life;&#xa0; 
 Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment that prioritizes reflection and fosters growth as the school continues to evolve; 
 Ability to be open-minded, creative and curious learning in relationship to colleagues and students alike; outstanding interpersonal and communication skills; 
 Ability to foster strong relationships with all community members including parents, educators, students and beyond;&#xa0; 
 Ability to work well in a team and in a very collegial and collaborative environment; 
 Ability to find joy in working with all children and finds ways to differentiate learning and connect across learner profiles;&#xa0;

 Responsibilities Include 
 
 Teaching : Maintain a safe, student-centered learning environment. Guide whole class, small group, and individualized instruction in English &#38; Social Studies. Regularly monitor and assess student learning and growth to inform instruction using a variety of tools and means. Serve as the homeroom teacher for eighth-grade students. 
 Curriculum Design : Plan a comprehensive, integrated curriculum that aligns with the school&#39;s mission and grade-level learning goals. Craft thoughtful, engaging units of study and PBL units designed to address the different learning styles of students in the class. 
 Collaboration : Work with grade-level colleagues to ensure integration across subject areas. Consistently and clearly communicate with colleagues, administrators, and parents regarding student progress and any student issues. 
 
 Additional Responsibilities 
 
 Attend and contribute to regular weekly faculty and Humanities team meetings. 
 Collaboratively plan, organize, and conduct relevant projects and field trips. 
 Supervise weekly recess duties. 
 Attend and assist with assemblies and special events, some of which occur outside of normal school hours.

 Primary Responsibilities of the Middle School Humanities Teacher: 
 
 The middle school humanities teacher is responsible for the planning, consistent documentation, and implementation of the middle school humanities program, in accordance with the department standards and school&#8217;s educational philosophy, established scope and sequence, and adopted resources. 
 Estimated course load: Teach 1 section of humanities; oversee a weekly club; and participate in duties and study halls. 
 Engage in self-reflection and professional growth through goal setting, participation in the PGP program, and attending PD opportunities. 
 Lead an advisory group of middle school students, collaborate with grade-level team on content. 
 Collaborate with Middle School Learning Specialist, School Counselor, and Deans in providing students with academic and social support, and attend family/support meetings as needed. 
 
 Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 
 
 Participate in staff, middle school division, humanities department, team meetings as needed to accomplish the goals of the program. 
 Facilitate and record notes for advisees&#8217; student-led Fall and Spring parent conferences. 
 Develop and implement robust assessment practices; provide regular feedback to students. 
 Prepare trimester report cards and midterm reports. 
 Guide student portfolio work. 
 Coordinate Acorn Stories. 
 Coordinate humanities field trips and participate in advisory field trips throughout the year. 
 Communicate regularly with families (send assessed work home, and write posts to class websites and articles). 
 Lead a Grove. 
 Participate in the middle school internal subbing program. 
 Supervise students during lunch, recess, and middle school assemblies. 
 Collaborate with the grade-level team in planning and implementing New Student Orientation. 
 
 Additional Program Expectations: 
 
 Supports admissions&#8217; work through hosting tours and visitors, as well as participating in the Middle School Open House. 
 Participate in the Middle School BTSN. 
 Participate in Camp Live Oak. 
 Support students during one evening event, such as the Middle School Music Festival, middle school dance, or movie night. 
 Attend the MS Music Festival/MS Drama Productions/Art Show. 
 Participate in the outdoor ed/travel overnight education trip. 
 Write speeches for graduates and attend the Eighth Grade Reflections Ceremony (to be determined by previous experience with the graduating class.)</description>
