Annunciation Orthodox School (AOS) seeks a Library Assistant who is dedicated to fostering intellectual and personal growth within the AOS community. Reports to:Director of Lower School Library & Director of Middle School Library
Status:Part-time
Start Date: August 3, 2026
Work Schedule:Monday-Friday 8:30 AM-2:30 PM (30 hrs/wk) with additional time as needed for meetings and professional development.
Responsibilities:
Oversee the maintenance and operation of the Library Management System (LMS), specifically Follett Destiny, including all circulation functions and a smooth check-out/return process
Catalog all library materials accurately by creating, editing, and analyzing MARC records, and improving existing bibliographic records according to policy and the Dewey Decimal System
Maintain physical materials by applying readable labels, circulation barcodes, and donation bookplates
Complete the annual Lower School and Middle School library inventory process to accurately track books, highlighting lost books for reordering
Support librarians with collection development tasks, including the systematic weeding of designated materials
Assist students, faculty, and parents in the effective use of library resources and tools, providing bibliographic and reference support
Provide personalized reader's advisory to encourage a love of reading and learning
Assist at the Middle School Circulation Desk and reshelve returned materials as needed
Provide instructional coverage for Lower School and Middle School library classes during librarian absences or scheduled meetings
Assist with library special events (e.g., guest author visits and the Teacher Favorites program), including specific support for the Book Fair donation table and maintaining the library database to reflect donor data
Perform additional duties as assigned to support library operations
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required in education, library science, or a related field; Master’s degree in Library/Information Science preferred
Knowledgeable in Library Management Systems (LMS), specifically Follett Destiny
Proficiency with Google Suite for Education productivity tools and Microsoft Office
Prior experience in a school or public library is preferred
Strong knowledge of children's and young adult literature across various genres and age levels
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Orientation to detail with a commitment to accuracy and thoroughness in cataloging and record keeping
Ability to lift/carry piles of books as well as easily transition to/from sitting on the floor with children
