TITLE: MS Soccer Coach
REPORTS TO: Director of Athletics and Principal
FUNCTION: The head coach is responsible for creating an environment that reflects the values and goals of the Heschel Athletics Department. The head coach is also responsible for organizing the team in such a way that, one, maximizes the educational and athletic potential of all student-athletes and, two, allows students to develop an appreciation of soccer.
Education and Certification Requirements:
Required:
High school diploma or equivalent
Associates' or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
Must be First-Aid-CPR-AED Certified
Preferred:
Associates' or Bachelor’s degree in physical education or related area; any level of coaching certification or experience playing the sport.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teaching/Training
Demonstrate flexibility, patience, and the ability to meet the needs of the student-athletes regardless of experience.
Build a program based on strong core values, skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
Collaborate with coaches to organize and plan thoughtful practices well in advance; execute and reflect on the session afterward.
Organizes and directs individual and small-group practice activities safely and progressively that ensures growth, understanding of the game, and team goals.
Assesses and manages players’ behavior, keeping the athletic director informed of their athletic performance and any concerns.
Supervision
Ensure that safety precautions are taken and observed during all activities.
Follows established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury and reports all injuries incurred in practice/meets to the Athletic Director.
Assumes responsibility for the care and supervision of all student-athletes.
Travel to and from practices and matches with the team.
Other Duties
Models sports-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators.
Distributes equipment, supplies, and uniforms to students.
Models nondiscriminatory practices and fosters an inclusive environment in all aspects of the team.
Attends staff development meetings, clinics, and other professional activities to improve coaching performance.
Performs any other related duties as assigned Athletic Director and principal, or other appropriate administrators.
Experience and Competency Requirements:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the essential duties with care and compassion for all student-athletes.
Required:
All candidates must possess or be able to obtain First Aid/CPR/AED and concussion certifications before the start of the season.
Candidates must have a passion for coaching and developing young players.
Coaching and playing experience at the middle school, high school, college, and/or in a strong club soccer setting.
Must possess effective communication skills and effective coaching techniques, and skills.
Must possess the ability to give feedback in a manner that advances a player’s knowledge, skill, and confidence.
Must possess knowledge of the rules and regulations, strategies, and techniques of the sport.
Job Specifics:
Length of season- Approximately 2 months (September - Mid-November)
Two-hour practices; 2 to 3 sessions weekdays (Monday-Thursday) from approximately 3:30- 5:30. Coaches should be available from approximately 2:30 PM to 6:30 PM for games
Pay range: $60 - $75 per hour
