Summary:
San Francisco Waldorf High School seeks an enthusiastic and experienced Botany Teacher who wants to join the Waldorf high school faculty and work in a collaborative environment. We are interested to learn what ideas the candidate might like to bring to the high school life sciences curriculum and beyond.
Our ideal candidate excels at teaching to a wide range of student abilities, is highly organized, and has sound classroom management and teaching strategies. The Botany block is an 11th grade class.
Diversity is celebrated and faculty of color are welcomed, valued, and supported.
The high school campus is located in the West Portal neighborhood which is easily accessible via public transportation.
Botany blocks for the 2025-2026 school year:
Block 7: March 9th- April 1st
Block 8: April 13th- May 8th (no classes 4/17)
Classes are held 5 days a week from 8:30- 10:15 AM. Please plan to arrive at 8:00am to set up your classroom.
Summary of Job Responsibilities:
Grade and write narrative reports and submit them by the deadline.
Attend department or subject meetings as required/requested
Parent Communications: consistently engage in timely outreach and response
Manage individual budget and order supplies as needed
Maintaining an organized and safe classroom and laboratory space
Designing and carrying out laboratory experiments that adhere to safety guidelines and meet the curriculum
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, advanced degree preferred in Botany, Life Sciences, Biology or equivalent
Interest in and appreciation for Waldorf Education
Commitment to professional growth
Versatility, enthusiasm, punctuality, creativity
Significant high school teaching and/or experience working with adolescents
Benefits and Compensation:
Compensation is $200.00 per day. This is a part-time position. Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
Be able to occasionally lift to 30 lbs.
Work intermittently in outside weather conditions, including heat and cold
Regularly sitting or standing 4-8 hours
FLSA Classification: Faculty; hourly, non-exempt from overtime

San Francisco Waldorf School (SFWS) is an independent, co-educational, non-sectarian school providing education from Kindergarten through Grade 12. The school is fully accredited by the Western Association of Colleges and Schools (WASC) and by the Association of Waldorf Schools of North America (AWSNA). SFWS was established in 1979 with the purpose of bringing the 100-year old international Waldorf school movement to San Francisco. SFWS now has over 400 students in grades K though 12 on two campuses including its new “green” high school campus (LEED Gold certification pending). In addition, the school supports a nursery program and early childhood classes for parents and children.
