What We're Looking For 

Elementary Drama teachers lay a foundation by incorporating theater vocabulary, history, technology, stage design, and movement. Students learn how to tell stories with and without words, self-expression through drama, and how to perform for an audience. 

Drama Teachers have the unique opportunity to collaborate with other Subject Expert Teachers to bring music and drama into history, technology, and other areas to provide further context and enhanced learning for students. Our teachers are encouraged to bring their own passion into the classroom and share with students in an enthusiastic and innovative way to produce extraordinary outcomes. Music teachers lay a foundation for a life-long love of, and appreciation for, music by introducing basic melodic and rhythmic concepts, instrument types and families, vocal posture and breathing, and numerous other topics and skills. 

Primary Job Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

• Prepare subject specific lessons in drama and music for elementary school-aged students. 

• Provide subject instruction on a higher level than grade standard, in an interactive learning environment and delivering exceptional results for all students. 

• Implement BASIS Curriculum by designing effective and creative lessons and assessments to ensure students’ education is at an internationally competitive level. 

• Collaborate with other BASIS Independent teachers to form a community of smart, talented and interesting people who are passionate about education and readily willing to work in a professional, academic environment. 

• Tutor students in content-specific knowledge and skills to heighten the trajectory of students’ academic and career success. 

• Manage student behavior to foster academic achievement, personal responsibility, intellect and individuality in all students. 

Essential Teacher Qualifications: 

• Has deep knowledge of and passion for the subject taught 

• Able to differentiate instruction and engage students in rigorous content 

• Able to create a positive classroom community and build relationships with students 

• Has strong verbal and written communication skills with students, colleagues, and parents 

• Open to feedback and continuous growth 

• Creative in instructional and classroom management strategies (high warm and high firm) 

• Cooperative, collaborative, supportive, flexible 

• Has a strong work ethic and a “do whatever it takes” mindset

Additional Qualifications 

Minimum Qualifications: A bachelor's degree in the subject area. Coursework or experience in education is not required, nor is certification. Candidates must have the ability to obtain a fingerprint clearance card. 

Preferred Qualifications: Subject-matter postgraduate work (master's or Ph.D.) is preferred. Together with a high level of educational attainment, a successful applicant will demonstrate strong communication skills in teaching ideas, texts, and concepts with precision and confidence. Critically, an applicant must possess a high GPA in their major, excellent recommendations, experience working with children- not necessarily in the classroom- and be open to new ideas in teaching.
