SUMMARY:
The Upper School History and Religion Department is seeking a teacher who is passionate about the study of history, enthusiastic about working with high school students and committed to developing their craft as a teacher. Cognizant of our increasingly connected world, the department has developed a set of curricular offerings that build from a two-year World History foundation, include various approaches to the teaching of American History and allow students to choose from a range of exciting senior level seminars. The Upper School History and Religion Department is seeking a collaborative colleague to join the team. Ideal candidates will have a demonstrated ability to foster students’ critical thinking, writing and analytic skills and experience teaching in student-centered environments.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teach four sections- two World History I to ninth graders and two U.S. history to eleventh graders
- Successfully engage and develop student’s interest and enthusiasm for the subject matter
- Attend departmental and divisional meetings, as well as all school professional development events.
- Participate in the life of the Upper School by attending full group activities (morning meeting, student presentations and performances and culminating events) and by participating in non-teaching responsibilities, such as study hall, advising a club or coaching
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Understanding of and desire to work with high school students
- Familiar with and willing to explore student-centered pedagogical approaches
- Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion and a high degree of cultural competency
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Energy, enthusiasm and curiosity – willingness to be a fellow learner with students
- Proficient in the use of technology
- Bachelor’s degree in History, Social Sciences and/or History education required, Masters preferred
