International School of Brooklyn seeks a dynamic, hardworking, Middle School SpanishTeacher to teach Advanced Spanish with a focus on language and literature studies. This is a leave position that will begin on August 25, 2025, and will extend to December 19, 2025; curriculum and materials will be provided.
The ideal candidate is a native or near native Spanish speaker who understands and enjoys young people (ages 11-14) and is a skilled Spanish teacher with a strong knowledge and love of language studies. Other ideal attributes include commitment, patience, strong classroom management skills, positive energy, a sense of humor, and commitment to making curriculum accessible to all types of learners.
Description of position
The individual will:
Teach 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade Advanced Spanish Studies classes (one section of each grade)
Teach related electives or skills classes when needed
Provide one-on-one or small group Spanish language support to students as needed
Serve as a Homeroom teacher for a small group of mixed-grade students
Fulfill other supervisory duties as required by the Middle School Division
Follow and update unit planners in line with the IB’s philosophy, incorporating inquiry-based practices and authentic learning opportunities that develop international mindedness
Foster a positive learning environment that empowers students
Support students outside of class as needed during the school day
Provide timely and consistent feedback to students and families
Communicate effectively and build strong partnerships with students, families, and colleagues
Model and promote kindness, positivity, and integrity both in and out of the classroom
Requirements:
Teaching experience, preferably in a middle school setting; experience teaching in an independent, international, or IB school is a plus
Degree in Spanish, Literature, or other related subject; MA degree is a plus
Supportive, student-centered approach and ability to differentiate instruction
Familiarity with and commitment to inquiry-based learning
Supportive, student-centered approach and ability to differentiate instruction
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Effective classroom management skills with knowledge of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports
Comfort and experience with educational technology, including Google Suite
Collaborative spirit and a commitment to being a team player
Dedication to professional growth and participation in school-wide initiatives
Salary information: $34.28 (hourly rate). This position is not eligible for ISB’s full benefits package.
