Position Summary and Overview
The Churchill School & Center, a K-12 school for students with language-based learning disabilities, is seeking an Upper School (Grades 7-12) leave replacement English Teacher for hire from August 2025 - November 2025.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Demonstrate commitment to Churchill’s mission and core values
- Embrace and model Churchill’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Work collaboratively with cooperating team members, including but not limited to: co-head teacher, related service providers and specialists to plan and implement units of study, lessons, assignments, and projects & activities that reflect a diversity of voices and points of view
- Develop critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and tools for students to become independent, college-bound learners
- Break down/scaffold of in-class assignments and projects
- Grade student work and participation
- Track students’ work and progress
- Serve as an advisor to a small group of students
- Communicate with Student families as needed
- Attend relevant staff meetings as required
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have...
- BA or BS Degree in English, English Education, Special Education or related field
- MA or MS Degree in English Education, Literacy/Reading , Special Education or related field
- NYS Teacher Certification
- Knowledge of, or willingness to continue higher levels of education to obtain knowledge of effective service strategies and methodologies for working with children with language-based learning disabilities
- Classroom or small group instruction experience building positive and appropriate relationships with students
- Familiarity with Smartboards, Google Drive, and technology
- Interest in professional career development in the field of special education and literacy instruction
- Patience, flexibility, good organization skills, and a sense of humor
Compensation
- $63K-$85K annual salary commensurate with experience
