SUMMARY:
The Upper School English Department at The Masters School seeks an English teacher who is passionate about the study of literature and writing, thrilled at the chance to work with intellectually curious high school students, and deeply engaged in the craft of teaching and the work of collaboration with colleagues. This position offers candidates the chance to work with a thoughtful faculty cohort and a fantastic student body, eager to build their skills as readers, writers and learners.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teach four sections of English at various levels (9-12)
Attend departmental and grade-level teaching team meetings and collaborate with colleagues to ensure quality learning experiences for students
Attend division and full faculty meetings
Fulfill one non-teaching responsibility (NTR), such as coaching, advising a student club/publication
Serve as an advisor to a group of students after the first year of teaching
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in English (or a related field); advanced degree, preferred
A commitment to inspiring students to appreciate the world of literature and language and to continue learning
Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion and a high degree of cultural competency
Proven ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues
A commitment to student-centered pedagogies and learning strategies
Proven ability to effectively communicate with students, parents and colleagues to build community and support student learning, including excellent written and verbal communication skills
Energy, enthusiasm, and curiosity – willingness to be a fellow learner with students
