Lower School Part-time Literacy Specialist

The Elisabeth Morrow School (EMS), a leader in education from early   childhood through middle school, seeks a Literacy Specialist to support student learning in grades 1–4.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

• The specialist will provide literacy instruction and support within a regular education setting. 
• The Lower School Literacy Specialist will have responsibilities including small group instruction, push-in support, differentiating the curriculum, screening students, and communicating with families.
•  The Lower School Literacy Specialist will join a student support team that currently includes a Director of Student Success, a learning specialist, a Speech and Language specialist, and a Clinical Psychologist. This role is being added to the lower school team to provide greater support and acceleration in literacy. 

Essential Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, Literacy, Reading, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
• Strong knowledge of early literacy development and effective reading instruction methods.
• Reading Specialist certification or endorsement (where applicable) 
• Previous teaching experience in K-4 classrooms with a focus on literacy instruction.
• Familiarity with research-based literacy programs (e.g., Fundations, Wit and Wisdom, Geodes)
• Ability to scaffold and differentiate instruction.
• A personal and professional commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion 
• Successful experience differentiating instruction with elementary-aged students in small groups and 1:1 
• The ability to be highly collaborative as a member of the Student Success Team.
• The ability to strategically use formative and summative data to communicate both student readiness and inform differentiated instruction
• Proactive communication in order to keep teachers and families updated on student progress, including attending family-teacher conferences and offering professional resources 
• Demonstrated commitment to the academic, social, and emotional well-being of every child, every day

Preferred Qualifications

• Experienced homeroom teachers who have a passion for literacy and are ready for a new challenge are encouraged to apply.
• Experience with literacy interventions (e.g., RTI, Tier 2/3 support) is preferred
• Experience in training teachers
• Knowledge of IEPs, 504s, accommodations, and modifications

While teaching experience is required, that experience need not be in independent schools. Teachers who have worked in public/charter schools are encouraged to apply.

Compensation 

This is a part-time position with a benefits and compensation package that is competitive for the region. The salary range for this position is of $40,000 to $55,000.
