Summary: FASNY is seeking a teacher with a degree in Education, French as a Foreign Language (FLE), Applied Linguistics, or a related field, and at least three years of experience teaching French Language Learners. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong proficiency in French (spoken and written), solid knowledge of second language acquisition, and the ability to support students’ linguistic, academic, and cultural integration within a bilingual and international school setting.
Description: The FLL Teacher is committed to providing an inclusive, interactive, and supportive learning environment. This person collaborates with all members of the school community to meet the needs of multilingual learners and to promote and live by the school’s mission and philosophy. Missions: - Provide targeted French language instruction to students learning French as a foreign language, individually and in small groups. - Develop and follow lesson plans aligned with students’ language proficiency levels and academic needs. - Conduct classroom activities based on differentiated learning needs to ensure all students are learning at their full potential. - Assess students’ French language proficiency and monitor progress over time. - Participate in ongoing staff training and professional development sessions. Educational Vision: - Language instruction based on a skills-based and communicative approach. - Ability to implement differentiation in the classroom - Be cognizant of a teaching and learning environment that fosters equity, inclusion, and multilingualism at all levels.
Student Follow-Up: - Provide individualized language support, homework help, provide enrichment and or help sessions. - Assist students with specific linguistic or learning needs. - Communicate regularly with parents, head of department, teachers, and school counselor.
- Participate in parent-teacher conferences to maximize student learning opportunities.
Master’s Degree or its foreign equivalent in Education, French as a Foreign Language (FLE), Applied Linguistics, or a related field.
Founded in 1980 as a one-classroom preschool, the French-American School of New York (FASNY) has offered the best in bilingual education for local francophone families and expatriate students for more than forty years.
