Join The Lovett School as Upper School Chemistry Teacher – 2026–2027
Reports To: Head of Upper School Start Date: August 2026
The Lovett School, a vibrant independent day school in Atlanta, seeks a passionate and experienced science educator to join our Upper School faculty as a Chemistry Teacher beginning in August 2026. This is an exciting opportunity to teach multiple levels of chemistry and, as needed, one additional science area (biology or physics) while engaging students in problem-based, student-centered learning.
At Lovett, we are committed to educating the whole child. Our students thrive in an environment that nurtures curiosity, character, and belonging. As an Upper School Chemistry Teacher, you will inspire students through hands-on, inquiry-based instruction while collaborating with colleagues to create a dynamic, inclusive learning community.
What You’ll Do:
Teach 2–3 preps across 4 sections of 15–18 students, designing purposeful curriculum and assessments to meet the needs of a diverse community of learners.
Provide regular feedback to students, communicate with families, and deliver mid-semester comments.
Serve as an advisor to approximately 10 students (grades 9–12), supporting their academic and personal growth, attending assemblies, and engaging families through conferences.
Conduct tutorials Monday–Thursday afternoons and optional morning sessions by appointment.
Participate actively in the life of the school beyond the classroom, including athletics, fine arts, extracurricular activities, and special events.
Collaborate with colleagues across departments to create a cohesive, engaging, and innovative academic experience.
Who You Are:
A science educator with experience teaching chemistry at the Upper School level; capable of teaching an additional science (biology or physics) is a plus.
Passionate about inquiry-based, student-centered learning, and problem-solving approaches.
A strong communicator and collaborator, able to support colleagues and work within a team-oriented environment.
Committed to fostering curiosity, critical thinking, and a culture of belonging for all students.
Organized, self-directed, and able to manage multiple responsibilities with care and attention to detail.
Dedicated to ongoing professional growth and development for yourself and your students.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree with significant coursework in chemistry, science, or a related field. A master’s degree is preferred.
Experience designing curriculum, instruction, and assessments for diverse learners.
Demonstrated ability to engage students in active, inquiry-driven learning.
A genuine love for working with adolescents and commitment to their holistic development.
Why Lovett: At Lovett, we cultivate a learning community where students and adults flourish together. We value curiosity, kindness, collaboration, and integrity. Here, your teaching can inspire scientific inquiry while helping students reach their full potential.
Physical Demands: This role requires regular sitting, standing, walking, and use of hands. Occasional lifting of up to 10 pounds may be required. Vision and focus adjustments are necessary. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
Post-Offer Requirements: The employment process includes a post-offer drug (hair) test and background check.
