The Head Wrestling Coach is responsible for the overall leadership, development, and management of the boys wrestling program across both Lower School (grades 4–8) and Upper School. This role includes coaching student-athletes, fostering a positive and inclusive team culture, and providing strategic direction and oversight to assistant coaches. The Head Coach will build a cohesive, developmentally aligned program that emphasizes skill progression, sportsmanship, and competitive excellence.
Specifically, areas of responsibility will include:
Program Leadership & Development
Design and implement a comprehensive wrestling program spanning grades 4–12, ensuring alignment in philosophy, technique, and skill progression.
Establish and communicate program values emphasizing character, discipline, sportsmanship, and respect.
Build a sustainable and competitive wrestling program that supports long-term athlete development.
Coordinate offseason training opportunities, camps, and clinics as appropriate.
Coaching & Athlete Development
Plan and lead effective, age-appropriate practices for both Lower School and Upper School athletes.
Teach fundamental through advanced wrestling techniques, strategy, and conditioning.
Provide individualized feedback to support athlete growth and performance.
Promote physical fitness, injury prevention, and safe training practices.
Staff Leadership & Supervision
Recruit, supervise, and mentor assistant coaches across both divisions.
Provide clear expectations, coaching frameworks, and regular feedback to assistant coaches.
Ensure consistency in coaching methods and athlete experience across all levels of the program.
Team Operations
Organize and manage team schedules, including practices, competitions, and transportation logistics in collaboration with the Athletic Department and Campus Operations.
Oversee equipment needs, inventory, and uniform distribution.
Ensure compliance with school policies, league regulations, and safety standards.
Student Engagement & Culture
Foster a positive, inclusive, and respectful team environment.
Support the academic success and personal development of student-athletes.
Serve as a role model for integrity, leadership, and sportsmanship.
Communication
Maintain clear and consistent communication with student-athletes, families, assistant coaches, and school leadership.
Represent the wrestling program within the school community and externally with professionalism.
The position may perform other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Minimum Experience: 3 years of Wrestling experience; ideally in an independent school
Education: Completed 4-year degree; experience in lieu of education is considered
Certifications: CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous head coaching experience.
Experience working in an independent school or youth development setting.
