This position is responsible for designing and delivering engaging media arts instruction for Middle and Upper School students. The Media Arts curriculum emphasizes creative expression, digital storytelling, and effective communication across a range of platforms and audiences. Instruction is grounded in collaboration, critical thinking, problem-solving, and ethical media practices. Students engage in authentic, project-based learning experiences that mirror real-world communication environments and encourage them to create, analyze, and reflect on media for different purposes and contexts. Course formats may include television and film production, and podcasting. This position is a full time, 10-month schedule and reports to the Dean of the Upper School.
Responsibilities:
Demonstrate a commitment to authentic, project-based learning experiences that mirror real-world media and communication contexts
Foster creativity, innovation, and responsible media creation
Integrate current and emerging digital tools and platforms to support media production, editing, and storytelling
Design motivating, standards-aligned lessons that reflect strong knowledge of curriculum, adolescent development, and student interests
Cultivate an inclusive classroom environment that values diverse perspectives, voices, and cultural contexts
Use a variety of formative and summative assessments to evaluate student learning and inform instruction
Create a dynamic, age-appropriate learning environment that supports creativity, collaboration, and responsible risk-taking, while maintaining clear expectations for learning and behavior
Select and maintain instructional resources and digital tools that support media arts instruction and production
Collaborate effectively with colleagues and administrators
Demonstrate strong classroom and project-based learning management skills
Adhere to MVA’s standards for faculty members regarding teaching, service, and scholarship as outlined in the MVA Employee Handbooks.
Skills and Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required; prior teaching experience and a Master’s degree preferred
Experience in media arts, digital storytelling, journalism, film, broadcasting, or related fields strongly valued
Ability to contribute meaningfully to extracurricular or co-curricular programming preferred
Excellent writing, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills required
Physical requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Must be able to access and navigate each department at the Academy’s facilities.
