Founded in 1915, Roycemore is a highly regarded, co-educational independent school for students from 3 years old through 12th grade. Position Overview
The Middle and Upper School Division Head is a full-time, 12-month senior administrative position that reports directly to the Head of School. In alignment with the school’s strategic plan, mission, vision, and values, the Director will enhance a comprehensive grades 5-12 program that furthers the mission and vision of Roycemore School.
The Director of Middle and Upper School will act as the direct supervisor of grade 5-12 faculty, and lead administrator for students and parents of the middle and upper school divisions.
Responsibilities and Expectations
Act as the educational and administrative leader of Middle and Upper School, grades 5-12 (130-150 students, 24 faculty).
Observe, supervise, and evaluate the faculty in the development and implementation of curriculum, supervision of students, and the execution of all duties.
Maintain a culture of academic excellence for all constituencies.
Gain awareness of the educational, physical, social, and emotional needs of the members of our school community, and coordinate plans for meeting these needs.
Ensure compliance with legal requirements of government regulations and agencies, maintain the educational standards established by those agencies that examine and accredit the school.
Lead the hiring process for faculty positions in grades 5-12 and make recommendations to the head of school regarding the hiring, retention, and assignment of faculty.
Conduct teacher evaluations to ensure that teachers adhere to the Roycemore model of instruction and our portrait of an educator.
Strive for a positive professional culture and cooperation through tact, helpfulness, respect, and a recognition of individual differences and the special abilities and strengths of each member of our school community.
Conduct regular meetings with faculty which will deal both with routine school matters and matters of professional growth.
Oversee the grading and the reporting of standards and methods used by teachers in measuring student achievement.
Work with the Dean of Students to direct student conduct consistent with school policies, monitor students' adherence to established school rules, and maintain accurate records of student citizenship.
Create a visible presence in all areas of the school.
Work toward a resolution of all problems, both routine and unique, as they arise.
Proactively build relationships and guide the community to prevent problems from arising.
Keep the Head of School informed of the general programs, activities, and problems of the school.
Coordinate with the Director of Technology to prepare a master class schedule and to assign teachers and students to classes and other obligations.
Assist in the admission process for the testing, interviewing, and evaluating of applicants for enrollment.
Assist, as a member of the senior administration and peer, with the work of admissions, development, marketing, and finance.
A minimum of three years of progressive leadership, ideally in an independent school environment
A strong passion for teaching and commitment to student learning and development
Ability to interface and communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff members
Enthusiasm for embracing the independent school model of mentoring, advising, and supporting students and faculty
Embraces authentic assessment, innovative pedagogies, and project-based learning
Enthusiasm for professional development
Comfortable using online texts, iPads, Learning Management Systems, and computer systems
Working knowledge of Macintosh operating systems
Experience with G-Suite (Google Apps) for Education (preferred)
Ability to maintain confidentiality

Ability to use basic office equipment
