This hybrid role blends hands-on classroom teaching with instructional leadership, ensuring a cohesive, developmentally appropriate early childhood experience grounded in play-based, inquiry-driven learning and strong social-emotional development.
The Pre-Kindergarten/Kindergarten Coordinator works closely with the Head of Lower School and the Director of Curriculum and Instruction to align curriculum, instruction, and student services, and to ensure smooth and intentional PK to K transition systems.
Strong applicants will have demonstrated experience in early elementary instruction, a deep awareness and understanding of academic and social-emotional early child development, and experience working in a co-teaching format. Additional qualities include a philosophical commitment to child-centered instruction and strong communication skills. Hands-on and play-based teaching experience are core to Norwood’s early childhood program. This position will report directly to the Head of Lower School and commence on August 1, 2026.
Ideally, applicants should have at least five years of experience working with four- and/or five-year-old children. Ability and interest in team-teaching are a must. Additional qualifications include excellent communication and organizational skills, flexibility, intelligence, sense of humor, and a demonstrated love for working with young children and their families.
Responsibilities include:
· Co-teaching in a PK classroom (50% time)
· Providing instructional leadership and coordination across PK and kindergarten
· Supporting and coordinating PK and kindergarten faculty, including team-teaching structures
· Coaching teachers through regular classroom presence and strategic push-in support
· Collaborating with curriculum leadership to support early childhood curriculum implementation
· Partnering closely with the Student Support Team to address student needs and facilitate early intervention, including communication with PK and K families
· Leading and refining PK-to-K transition systems to ensure continuity and readiness
Bachelor’s degree required; speech-language pathology or learning specialist background strongly preferred; advanced training or credentials in early childhood education preferred.
