Position Overview: The Red Oaks School, a PreK–8 independent school in Morristown, NJ, seeks a caring, responsible, and energetic individual for a full-time hybrid role as an Early Childhood Classroom Aide and After-School Care Staff Member. This position is based at our Elementary School campus (Pre-K through Grade 4) on Cutler Street.
Schedule:
Classroom Aide (10:00 AM – 2:00 PM): Support Montessori classrooms serving ages 3–6.
After-School Care (Approx. 2:30 – 6:00 PM): Help run a dynamic program for early childhood and elementary students.
Ideal candidates have experience working with young children, strong communication skills, and a warm, dependable presence. Flexibility, sound judgment, and a calm demeanor are essential. Red Oaks values the unique contributions of individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Key Responsibilities
Classroom Aide (Pre-K – Kindergarten):
Assist teachers with classroom prep, cleanup, and organization.
Support students during snack, lunch, and nap time routines.
Supervise and promote safe, respectful play outdoors.
Accompany young children during transitions (e.g., restroom, Spanish class).
Provide emotional reassurance and model positive behavior.
Maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards throughout the day.
After-School Care (Pre-K – Grade 4):
Supervise students and create a positive, engaging environment.
Facilitate daily routines including snack, handwashing, and homework support.
Follow an activity schedule and contribute ideas for enrichment.
Collaborate with aftercare staff and communicate effectively with students of varying ages.
Qualifications
Prior experience with children in a school or childcare setting.
Age 18+ preferred.
Warm, patient, and nurturing personality.
Reliable, punctual, and team-oriented.
Able to engage actively with young children (including sitting on the floor, assisting with coats, etc.).
Comfortable working indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions.
