The Browning School is a K-12 boys school located on East 62nd Street (Lower and Middle Schools) and East 64th Street (Upper School) in midtown Manhattan, New York. Founded by scholar and teacher John A. Browning, The Browning School has been a leader in fostering the intellectual and personal growth of boys and young men since 1888. Serving roughly 470 students in kindergarten through grade 12, Browning strives to combine the best of a traditional prep school environment and curriculum with imaginative teaching and a strong value system – all in a single-sex setting.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Browning is searching for a full-time Health & Wellness Teacher for the 2026-2027 academic year. The position will begin on or around August 27, 2026. The expected annual salary range for this position is $75,000-115,000, commensurate with experience--an exact offer reflects a candidate’s relevant experience, skill level, and the responsibilities of the role.A bachelor’s degree or considerable experience in the role is required, while an advanced degree in a related field is preferred. Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States.
Key Responsibilities
The K-8 Health & Wellness Teacher is responsible for implementing Browning’s Health & Wellness program by cultivating a deep understanding of physical, social, and emotional health in our boys. This role entails teaching classes in both our Lower School and Middle School, as well as serving as an advisor to a section of Middle School boys. An effective K-8 Health & Wellness Teacher will bring expertise and passion in the field of health and wellness education, as well as experience in cultivating an understanding of healthy habits in boys. All Browning teachers are responsible for building strong relationships with students and delivering the content and curriculum of the Browning program. Successful teachers believe in and desire the growth of all their students and have a passion for their subject matter and for the art, craft, and science of pedagogy. Ultimately, teachers are responsible for the most important work of our School -- knowing our boys and teaching them well.
Among other things, the Health & Wellness Teacher is tasked with:
Teaching Health & Wellness classes in the Lower and Middle School divisions
Developing and implementing an inspiring curriculum in conjunction with the Upper School Health and Wellness Teacher and the Wellness Team
Advising a group of students in the Middle School
Using Browning’s Target-Focused Teaching and studentship methods to ensure student growth and alignment
Creating strong relationships with students built on Browning’s core values of honesty, dignity, curiosity, and purpose
Collaborating as a professional, collegial, and inspirational member of the department
Participating in professional development to grow the self, department, and school
Communicating with families about curricular and student matters
Implementing supervisory duties as assigned, such as lunch or study hall coverage
Heartily contributing to the school community
