Position Overview & Responsibilities
The Robotics & Engineering teacher will report to either the Head of Middle School or the Head of Upper School and will be responsible for teaching/redesigning a variety of Middle School and Upper School Robotics and Engineering courses (e.g. coding, robotics, engineering courses) as well as collaborating with other IDEAS@PD teachers.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching: Design and deliver courses in Robotics and Engineering.
Advisory: Support the needs of either Middle or Upper School students related to academics and wellness.
Clubs: Assist and support MS and US Drones and Robotics teams.
Innovate: Create, craft, and curate opportunities for students and peers to explore new learning opportunities in robotics and engineering.
Supervision: Assist in supervising the Bench (Makerspace) area during middle and upper school lunch periods and/or before and after school.
About the IDEAS Department The IDEAS department is an interdisciplinary program designed to integrate Innovation, Design, Entrepreneurship, Analytics, and Sustainability into the student experience. Rather than treating technology as a standalone subject, the department weaves these five pillars into every aspect of teaching and learning, encouraging students to work collaboratively across traditional academic boundaries.
Student Opportunities in IDEAS The program offers students the freedom to forge new paths in a variety of modern fields, including pursuing a Diploma of Entrepreneurial Studies. Specific areas of exploration and activities include:
Computational Thinking: AP Computer Science, Web Development, App Development
Finance & Entrepreneurship: Opportunities such as the Investment Management Society and student-led Hackathons.
Media & Arts: Video production, podcasting, and events like the annual Student Film Festival.
STEM Applications: Engineering, green building practices (LEED), drone studies, and robotics.
Esports: A growing program featuring both courses and competitive clubs..
IDEASxChange & Resources The hub of the department is the IDEASxChange, a creative multi-use space located in the Dickson-Hemby Technology Center. This recently renovated facility promotes interaction between students and faculty while providing access to state-of-the-art equipment, including 3d printers, laser cutters, robotics, drones, esports arena, and more.
Qualifications
Education: A bachelor’s degree in a related field is required.
Experience: Candidates must have experience in teaching and engineering, robotics, or related fields.
