Abington Friends School (AFS), a vibrant Quaker school for students from Early Childhood (3 -year-olds) through Grade 12, seeks a Director of Lower School to begin July 1, 2026. Located on a 50-acre campus just north of Philadelphia, AFS is rooted in more than three centuries of educational leadership and guided by the Quaker testimonies of simplicity, peace, integrity, community, equality, and stewardship.
The Lower School enrolls approximately 170 students in EC–Grade 4 and provides a joyful, rigorous, developmentally grounded program that honors children as curious, capable, and full of promise. The Director of Lower School is a key instructional and community leader, supporting faculty, partnering with families, and ensuring that each child’s academic, social, and emotional growth is nurtured with intention and care. The Director also serves on the school’s Administrative Council.
The successful candidate will be a relational and collaborative leader with deep commitment to early childhood and elementary education; a strong grounding in experiential, inquiry-based pedagogy; and the ability to cultivate trust, professional partnership, and reflective practice among faculty. The Director will steward divisional operations, support inclusive classrooms, and collaborate closely with Admissions and Marketing to ensure robust enrollment.
