Friends Select School seeks a Lead Kindergarten Teacher to join our Lower School faculty immediately. The ideal candidate is an experienced, thoughtful, and collaborative educator who is passionate about working with young children in a diverse and inclusive Quaker school environment. This role involves teaching all core subjects, developing engaging and inclusive curriculum, assessing student learning in authentic ways, and communicating effectively with families. The teacher will work closely with colleagues and specialists to design interdisciplinary units of study, utilize the city as an extension of the classroom, and participate fully in the life of the school community.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Teach reading, writing, math, and social studies
Support students’ social-emotional development
Utilize the city to enhance student learning
Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum and instruction
Communicate regularly with families including, but not limited to, two progress reports and two parent conferences
Attend after school meetings and school events
Supervise students during lunch, recess, and dismissal
Participate in the kindergarten admissions team, including conducting 4-5 Saturday morning admission playdates
Desired Qualifications:
Graduate degree in education or a related field
3-5 years of teaching experience (Pre-K-1st-grade)
Strong pedagogical skills and understanding of early childhood development
Experience teaching literacy utilizing the science of reading
Experience and training in Responsive Classroom
Excellent communication and collaborative skills
Experience teaching integrated social studies and early math concepts
Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice
