The Jackson Hole Community School will be adding our new 6th-8th-grade Middle School division for the 2026-2027 school year, offering families in the Jackson community an education option that is grounded in our Middle School Purpose and Promise statement:
All middle school-aged children deserve a safe and inclusive school that helps them become competent and confident individuals who feel a sense of agency, are proud of who they are, are optimistic about their future, feel connected to those around them, and are prepared to succeed in our ever-changing world.
A small, independent 6-12 school, JHCS “prepares students to succeed in college and life, through challenging academics and excellence in teaching, in a community founded on personal relationships, student initiative, and integrity” (JHCS Mission).
We are currently seeking an energetic, experienced, and team-oriented Middle School Guidance Counselor for a full-time position that starts in August 2026. JHCS emphasizes the “community” aspect of its culture and seeks candidates who are interested in committing to its vibrancy and success. Faculty members are highly collaborative individuals who are eager to offer ideas, engage in discussion, and focus on generating and improving the learner experience. We expect that each employee will operate at a superior level and offer their services broadly to serve our students and the school community at large.
This Middle School Guidance Counselor position serves students in grades 6 through 8 and is focused on cultivating a supportive, inclusive, and mentally healthy school environment. The ideal candidate will be a champion for student well-being, designing and delivering a comprehensive guidance program focused on social-emotional learning (SEL) and mental health support. The Middle School Guidance Counselor will be responsible for:
Social-Emotional Education: Developing, implementing, and assessing a research-based, comprehensive SEL curriculum delivered through classroom lessons, advisor-group work, and individual check-ins.
Individual & Group Counseling: Providing short-term, solution-focused individual counseling and facilitating small support groups (e.g., divorce/grief support, social skills, anxiety management) to address students' immediate emotional and developmental needs.
Crisis & Intervention: Serving as a primary responder for mental health crises and providing triage, referral, and follow-up support. Consulting with teachers and parents on behavioral and emotional concerns.
Student Learning Support: Collaborating with parents, teachers, and students to ensure the effective reading, interpretation, and implementation of learning accommodations specified in Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), 504 Plans, and Educational-Psychological evaluations.
Collaboration & Consultation: Working closely with teachers, administrators, and parents to integrate SEL principles into the school culture and academic environment.
Referral & Resource Management: Maintaining a network of community mental health professionals and resources, and effectively referring students and families for long-term or specialized services.
Data-Driven Practice: Utilizing student data (e.g., discipline referrals, attendance, SEL screeners) to identify student needs, measure program effectiveness, and inform future programming.
Wellness Promotion: Organizing and leading school-wide initiatives and campaigns (e.g., stress and anxiety management) that promote a positive school climate and resilience.
