The Position
The Orchard School is seeking a dedicated, collaborative, and student-centered Wellness Teacher for grades 3 through 8. This role involves teaching physical education, health, and wellness classes that support the physical, social-emotional, and cognitive development of students. The successful candidate will demonstrate knowledge of national standards in physical and health education and create a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment where students develop the skills, knowledge, and confidence to lead healthy and active lives.
Qualifications and Attributes
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Physical Education, Health Education, Kinesiology, or a related field
Teaching experience with children in grades 3–8, preferably in a school setting
Understanding of and experience with National PE and Health Education Standards (e.g., SHAPE America)
Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices in physical and health education
Ability to teach a wide range of physical activities, fitness concepts, social-emotional wellness, and personal health topics
Experience designing inclusive, hands-on, and engaging wellness curriculum for diverse learners
Ability to assess student progress using a variety of formative and summative methods
Strong classroom management and communication skills
Proficiency with technology to enhance instruction and learning
Commitment to progressive education and experiential learning
Flexibility, creativity, and a willingness to grow professionally
Desire to actively participate in the broader life of the school, including clubs, events, and community activities
