Position Summary
Overlake School is hiring a Leave Replacement Upper School Science Teacher for this current fall semester whose responsibilities will include teaching three sections of 9th grade biology and one section of anatomy and physiology.
The ideal candidate has a minimum of three years of science teaching experience at the secondary school level, with an emphasis on biology, an advanced degree in science and/or education, and a passion for working with high school students. In addition, the successful candidate has worked collaboratively on curriculum and assessment and has a familiarity with the Next Generation Science Standards.

Teaching Responsibilities and Duties
Teach three sections of the 9th grade biology course Life on Our Planet and one sections of the Anatomy and Physiology elective; and hold office hours three times a week. Teachers are also required to attend meetings with the department, the division, and the whole faculty.
Successful candidates are teachers who inspire students to love science and scientific inquiry. Further, strong candidates must demonstrate the following:
Bachelor’s degree in science education or a related field
Relevant teaching experience
Computer literacy and technological proficiency, with interest in incorporating technology into the classroom
A desire to put cultural competency at the heart of their pedagogy and skill at working with a diverse population in an inclusive and equitable community
Belief in the critical importance of diversity in the life of the school and excitement about working to build and maintain a classroom that honors diversity of opinion and practice
Commitment to modeling and exhibiting high standards of scholarship
Capacity to communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues
Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues within and outside of the department and grade-level teams
