Position Summary:
Reporting to the Director of School Health & Nursing, the School Nurse provides school-based health services and promotes a healthy school environment. Serving the K–12 community, the School Nurse delivers direct health care, health education, and counseling, while also supporting the development and implementation of health programs and policies. This role ensures compliance with local, state, federal, and institutional health mandates and policies. The nurse serves as an advocate, liaison, and consultant on health-related matters for students, families, and staff, working collaboratively with administrators and the school community to support the physical, mental, emotional, and social well-being of all students and staff.

Key Responsibilities:
Health Services
Provide professional nursing services in accordance with New York State standards and licensing requirements.
Deliver direct care to students for injuries, illnesses, and chronic health conditions.
Communicate effectively and proactively with parents, faculty, and staff regarding student health issues.
Facilitate compliance with state-mandated immunization, medication, and communicable disease protocols.
Assess student health needs, develop care plans, and evaluate outcomes that impact student learning and safety.
Develop and maintain school health policies, protocols, and emergency action plans.
Educate students, parents, and staff on health, wellness, and disease prevention.
Serve as a health resource within the school curriculum and provide training to staff on relevant health topics.
Act as a liaison among school personnel, families, health care providers, and community agencies.
Identify and report environmental or safety concerns affecting health.
Participate on Crisis Response Teams.
Refer students to physicians or specialists as needed.
Information Management
Maintain accurate and confidential health records in compliance with state laws and school policies.
Document all health services provided and track required data for state reporting.
Prepare and manage health-related forms and documentation (physicals, immunizations, allergy protocols, etc.).
Compile and report aggregate health data as required by the New York State Department of Health.
Complete and maintain student accident and incident reports.
Health Education
Promote a student-centered and inclusive environment that supports wellness and preventive care.
Provide health education and professional development opportunities for staff, parents, and the community.
Professional Development and Community Involvement
Demonstrate awareness of the school and community’s health needs.
Collaborate with community health partners and participate in school wellness initiatives.
Engage in professional learning, workshops, and continuing education related to school nursing.
Participate in relevant professional associations at the local, state, national, and international levels.
Attend faculty meetings, in-service sessions, and school-wide professional development programs.
Athletics Support
Provide athletic directors, coaches, and trainers with updated clearance lists and relevant health information.
Support athletic health protocols and emergency response readiness.
Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing and a current New York State RN license
Relevant CME/CEU credits and current CPR/AED/First Aid certification
Minimum two years of experience as a school nurse or in a related clinical setting (ie, pediatrics, ER, etc).
Knowledge of school health programs, regulations, and documentation requirements
Ability to assess and address the health and developmental needs of Pre-K–12 students
Strong interpersonal, communication, collaboration, and leadership skills
Demonstrated sound judgment and professionalism in crisis situations
Proficiency with electronic health records and standard office software
Compensation
Compensation is between $77,645 - $94,284, commensurate with years of experience as outlined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement (salary is prorated for part-time or temporary positions).
