Lower School Librarian
The Opportunity Webb School of Knoxville seeks a Lower School Librarian who views the library not simply as a place for books, but as a dynamic learning environment where curiosity is sparked, and a lifelong love of reading takes root. This role is ideal for an educator who understands how literacy, research, and storytelling support the development of young children, and delights in helping students discover both the joy and purpose of reading.
At Webb, the Lower School library is a space where students explore ideas, ask questions, and come to see themselves as readers and thinkers.
What You Will Do As a member of the Lower School faculty, you will:
Design and lead engaging, developmentally appropriate library and literacy experiences
Teach foundational research and information literacy skills in age-appropriate ways
Collaborate with classroom teachers to support and extend curricular goals
Manage and develop a diverse, relevant library collection through thoughtful curation
Create an environment where curiosity, exploration, and independent thinking are encouraged
Use technology and library management tools to support access, learning, and exploration
Build strong relationships with students and families through communication and shared celebrations of reading
Contribute to the life of the school as a colleague, community member, and participant in school events
Model Webb’s core values of academic excellence, integrity, curiosity, and care for others
Who You Are You likely have:
A bachelor’s degree in Library Science, Education, or a related field (Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program preferred)
Three or more years of experience working with elementary-aged students in a library or classroom setting
Deep knowledge of children’s literature and a passion for connecting students with books
A student-centered, developmentally informed approach to teaching and learning
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage a dynamic learning space
A commitment to collaboration, reflection, and ongoing professional growth
A genuine alignment with Webb School of Knoxville’s mission and values
If this sounds like the kind of place where you'd do your best work, we hope you'll reach out. Send your resume and cover letter to John Micheletto, Director of Faculty and Instructional Programs (john.micheletto@webbschool.org).
