Austin Waldorf School is seeking an enthusiastic high school Science teacher to join our dedicated and collaborative faculty for the 2025-2026 school year. Our team of specialists is looking for an applicant who is passionate about the study and teaching out of their expertise and can render their subjects to high school students in a dynamic and practical way. Preference will be given to applicants with practical expertise in Biology and Chemistry Science, (physics a plus) or related fields. Experience in math is a strong plus.
Requirements
BS in Biology or Chemistry, Science, (physics a plus) or a related discipline, including at least undergraduate-level coursework and laboratory experience.
Sufficient expertise to teach the subject at the high school level with an experiential and/or phenomenological approach.
Training in Waldorf education is ideal. Experience, familiarity, and/or genuine interest in Waldorf education and training is highly desirable.
At least three years of practical experience in the area of expertise and one year of teaching experience at the high school level.
Ability to engage high school students in lessons by utilizing observational and experiential activities so that students can arrive at conceptual thinking and understanding phenomenologically.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as excellent collaboration skills.
Good classroom management skills.
Ability to maintain safety in a laboratory and other science settings.
Job Description
The Austin Waldorf High School Science educator in this position teaches science block courses to 9th-12th graders. These blocks may include topics such as Thermal Physics, Botany, Environmental Science, Electricity and Magnetism, Optics, Ecology, or others as part of the science team. Candidates who are qualified to teach math may be asked to teach one section of high school mathematics.
Classes include theoretical instruction, research, and components of experiential education. Common class activities would be executing and writing experimental reports or drawing diagrams. The curriculum is based on a foundation of in-class demonstrations and students' experiments and is situated in the context of understanding and experiencing the living world around us.
