Title: Director of Teaching and Learning 

Position Description: 

The Brawerman West Director of Teaching and Learning is a highly skilled and experienced educator with demonstrated capabilities in curriculum leadership, faculty professional development, and academic program innovation. The Director of Teaching and Learning is a collaborative partner in support of the school’s efforts to vertically align the K-6 curriculum, identify and support pedagogical needs, and build a faculty culture guided by intellectual curiosity and professional growth. The Director of Teaching and Learning ensures the advancement of the school’s mission statement and strategic objectives by overseeing the planning, delivery, assessment, and ongoing improvement of the school.

Brawerman West Elementary School of Wilshire Boulevard Temple is a Jewish day school (Kindergarten to Grade 6) operating on the Irmas Campus in West Los Angeles. 

Since its opening in 1999, Brawerman West Elementary School has offered an outstanding academic program, rooted in Jewish values, that nurtures students' cognitive, physical, social, emotional, and spiritual lives. Serving about 300 students, Brawerman West is a tight-knit, nurturing community with high faculty collaboration and an active, supportive parent body. Responsibilities: 

• Lead curriculum evaluation and development, including assessment and instructional design, to ensure alignment with the school’s mission and learning goals.
• Oversee implementation of new and revised curriculum, grounded in current best pedagogical practices.
• Partner with the Head of School, Principal, and Assistant Principals to ensure vertically aligned, interdisciplinary programming, including team teaching when possible.
• Advance key academic initiatives and introduce innovative, cross-disciplinary approaches to support learning goals.
• Establish consistent, equitable academic policies and practices across grade levels and among specialists (e.g., grading, assessment, homework).
• Mentor, coach, supervise, and evaluate faculty and department chairs to strengthen high-quality instruction.
• Conduct classroom observations to affirm strengths and promote professional growth.
• Design and lead professional development, goal setting, and new faculty orientation.
• Analyze data to identify root causes, prioritize actions, and implement effective solutions.
• Communicate clearly across oral, written, and visual formats, demonstrating strong listening skills, self-awareness, and empathy.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or Head of School.

Required Qualifications: 

• Master’s degree in Education or related field.
• Minimum five years experience as a teacher, instructional leader, and/or administrator in a school setting.
• Proven experience with curriculum development and teacher professional development.
• Strong facilitation skills with the ability to lead difficult conversations with sensitivity.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills.
• Highest levels of professionalism

Compensation:

• $90,000-$120,000 based on experience and qualifications
• Salary is based on employment from August 2026 through June 2026, paid over twelve months
