Fraser Woods Montessori School is seeking a Plant Operations Manager responsible for the maintenance, operations, and overall care of our 42,000 sq. ft. school building and surrounding campus. The ideal candidate has strong hands-on maintenance skills, the ability to manage contractors and vendors, and a proactive, community-minded approach to maintaining a safe and well-functioning learning environment.
Responsibilities
Manage all contractors and vendors who provide facilities, maintenance, and service support to the school.
Maintain the schedule and documentation for all required inspections, permits, and certifications, ensuring full compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
Perform and oversee general repairs, maintenance, and preventative upkeep of building systems and campus grounds.
Manage, prioritize, and complete maintenance requests submitted by teachers and administration.
Order, track, and facilitate delivery of building, custodial, and seasonal landscape supplies.
Lead setup and breakdown for school events, meetings, and community gatherings.
Work closely with the Head of School and CFO on strategic facility planning, capital improvements, and long-term campus stewardship.
Respond quickly to immediate facility needs to ensure safe and uninterrupted school operations.
Partner with the Head of School on safety procedures, emergency planning, and scheduled safety drills.
Supervise housekeeping staff, ensuring that building cleanliness standards are consistently met.
Qualifications
Demonstrated skills in light carpentry, plumbing, and electrical repair.
Ability to understand and apply regulatory compliance requirements and documentation procedures.
Proactive, organized, and able to prioritize multiple tasks effectively.
Strong communication skills and willingness to work collaboratively across the school community.
Enjoy working in a school environment and contributing to a positive and supportive atmosphere.
Previous experience working in a diverse community is preferred.
Prior experience in facilities management, building operations, construction, trades work, or property maintenance preferred.
Established in 1968, Fraser Woods Montessori School is a toddler through 8th grade, co-educational independent school located in the historic town of Newtown, Connecticut. FWM serves approximately 200 students on a beautiful 8 acre campus. The Middle School follows a more traditional, independent school model while remaining true to FWM's Montessori values that are more prominent in the lower grades. FWM provides a challenging educational environment while also focusing on the social-emotional needs of children ages 15 months to 14 years of age.
