OVERVIEW
The Lexington School has an immediate opening for a vibrant educator who believes there is an artist in every child. We’re seeking a creative, joyful, and collaborative art teacher to lead our visual arts program for students in Grades 2 –5 and inspire middle schoolers through engaging elective courses.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Teach dynamic visual arts classes to Grades 2–5.
Design and lead quarterly middle school art elective courses.
Foster a welcoming classroom environment that encourages curiosity, confidence, and creative risk-taking.
Collaborate with faculty and students on school-wide creative projects.
Support set, scenery, and prop design for school performances and community events in collaboration with other school faculty.
Showcase student artwork through exhibitions and collaborative displays.
Maintain an art classroom that is safe and organized where supplies are stored and kept in good repair.
Teach visual arts in alignment with the scope and sequence of the School’s visual arts curriculum.
Record lesson plans and pacing schedules as part of curriculum mapping.
Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional and positive learning atmosphere in the classroom.
Document progress of students and write narrative report card comments twice per year.
Communicate with parents as needed.
Maintain professional competence through professional growth activities.
Supervise students in out-of-classroom activities during the school day, such as recess, lunch, and breaks.
Participate in grade level, division, and full faculty meetings, and serve on school committees as required.
Attend divisional and school-wide required events (e.g. prep-planning, Open Houses, conferences, etc.).
Present a positive image of The Lexington School to the outside community, including social networking sites.
Supervise students during field trips, dances, and other events. Experiential learning is an integral part of the TLS experience, and travel on trips is an expectation of faculty members.
Other duties as assigned by the Division Head or Head of School.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position operates in a professional school environment with moderate noise levels.
Requires sitting and/or standing for long periods of time at a desk.
Requires regular eye-hand coordination, and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, telephone, mobile device, calculator, and other classroom equipment as required to teach.
Regular kneeling, lifting, pushing, pulling, bending, twisting, and reaching above the shoulders up to fifty [50] pounds.

QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in education or pertinent subject area from accredited university required; master’s or other advanced degree preferred.
Teaching experience working with school aged children preferred.
Experience teaching with a wide variety of artistic media preferred.
