The Phelps School is seeking an innovative, energetic Head Soccer Coach. The position offers a tremendous opportunity to continue building an elite soccer program at an independent boarding and day school. The Head Soccer Coach will be engaged across the whole community, serving a vital role in the classroom, admissions office, or in an administrative position, depending on the candidate's experience and interest. The Head Soccer Coach will be responsible for recruiting prospective student-athletes, creating a competitive schedule, practice planning, game management and college placement.
Responsibilities
Continue to build a preeminent year-round soccer program that exemplifies the mission of The Phelps School
Recruit high caliber players of character both domestically and internationally
Evaluate athlete performance and provide real-time suitable feedback, balancing criticism with positivity and motivation
Oversee the soccer program, including a year-round training program with an emphasis on technical skills, tactical understanding, physical conditioning, and mental preparation
Model inclusion when welcoming new athletes, despite skill level or experience
Act as a role model and leader at all times, gaining the respect and trust of the student-athletes, parents, and coaching colleagues
Create a highly competitive schedule, plan practices and manage all games
Solicit, hire, supervise, and mentor assistant coaches in a manner commensurate with athletic department policy and school mission
Evaluate, break down, and review film
Monitor and run sport-specific social media and participate in Athletic Department social media campaigns
Actively participate in the admissions process
Assist with college placement of student-athletes
Recruiting experience
Ideal coaching candidates should have experience coaching at the high school, club, and/or college level
Coaching experience with advanced knowledge and understanding of technical and strategic aspects of the game of soccer
Ability to communicate effectively with athletes, coaching staff, and parents
Ability to teach, lead, motivate student-athletes
Proven organizational and management skills
Desire and ability to cultivate strategic relationships with area athletic organizations
Desire and ability to team with our Admissions staff to communicate with prospective families
The coach may have the opportunity to serve on the residential life staff, with campus housing provided. Salary and residential life responsibilities are determined accordingly.
