General Description
San Francisco Waldorf School seeks a full-time Spanish Teacher to teach Spanish to all students in Grades 1st–8th. Students in Grades 1st - 6th receive Spanish twice weekly; students in Grades 7th–8th receive Spanish three times weekly. The teacher will bring a dynamic, developmentally-appropriate, and culturally rich world-language program rooted in the pedagogy and developmental insights of Waldorf education.
The ideal candidate is a fluent Spanish speaker with a deep love of language, a commitment to engaging students through imaginative and experiential learning, and the organizational skill to manage a multi-grade teaching schedule.
Teaching Responsibilities
Teach Spanish classes for Grades 1–8, following the developmental arc of language learning in a Waldorf school.
Create a vibrant curriculum that includes stories, songs, poetry, movement, games, dialogues, drama, grammar, reading, and writing appropriate to each grade level.
Teach historical and geographical awareness of the Spanish speaking world.
Develop an evolving middle-school curriculum that builds conversational skills, reading comprehension, grammar accuracy, and cultural appreciation.
Prepare lesson plans, student work, assessments, and reports according to school standards.
Cultivate joy, wonder, and curiosity in the classroom, fostering a positive relationship to language learning.
Lead and coordinate the school’s annual Dia de los Muertos celebration and other cultural observances
Consistent positive classroom management with a variety of ages.
Consistent record keeping of student progress.
Classroom Culture & Student Support
Establish inclusive, respectful, and culturally affirming classroom environments.
Differentiate instruction to meet a range of learning styles and abilities.
Implement accommodations in collaboration with the class teacher and Director of Student Support Services.
Collaborate with class teachers and student support faculty when indicated.
Observe and respond to student needs through both a developmental and pedagogical lens.
School Life & Faculty Collaboration
Participate fully in faculty life, including weekly faculty meetings, in-service days, and scheduled professional development.
Provide narrative or rubric-based student reports, attend parent-teacher conferences, and maintain communication with families as needed.
Contribute to festivals, assemblies, field trips, and community events where Spanish performance or cultural contributions are appropriate.
Maintain collegial relationships and engage in shared faculty responsibilities that support the life of the school.
Qualifications
Fluency in Spanish
Waldorf Teacher Training in progress or completed
Familiarity with Waldorf World Language education
Bachelor’s Degree
Enthusiasm and flexibility
Lesson planning and long range
Proficiency with an instrument that can accompany student singing (ex. Guitar, piano, etc.)
Compensation & Benefits
This is a 0.75 FTE position. Benefits include dental, vision, flexible spending plans, retirement plan (employer contributions after one year of employment), and tuition remission (prorated by FTE) for eligible dependents in our Preschool - Grade 12 program (staff fees apply). The full annual salary range is $67K - $95K, depending on training and experience. The salary will be prorated for less than a full 1 FTE. Salaries are paid on a 12-month schedule.

San Francisco Waldorf School (SFWS) is an independent, co-educational, non-sectarian school providing education from Kindergarten through Grade 12. The school is fully accredited by the Western Association of Colleges and Schools (WASC) and by the Association of Waldorf Schools of North America (AWSNA). SFWS was established in 1979 with the purpose of bringing the 100-year old international Waldorf school movement to San Francisco. SFWS now has over 400 students in grades K though 12 on two campuses including its new “green” high school campus (LEED Gold certification pending). In addition, the school supports a nursery program and early childhood classes for parents and children.
