Salary Details:
The expected pay range for this position is $38.00 - $41.00 per hour, not to exceed 10 hours per week per class section taught. Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location, and external market pay for comparable jobs.

Stanford’s Online High School is an accredited, diploma-offering, highly selective independent middle and high school, offering courses for grades 7-12. The mission of Stanford Online High School (OHS) is to foster a worldwide community of intellectually adventurous students and teachers. Our courses, created and taught by specialists in their academic fields, encourage students to continuously develop and test their own views as they integrate knowledge across disciplines. Small class sizes and synchronous class meetings populated by curious and engaged classmates and teachers make learning a meaningful and social experience. Students form close bonds with each other and with the school community through classes, clubs, meetups, and other school activities, all supported by caring educators. Our school brings together students with diverse backgrounds from across the world. Stanford Online High School offices are located at the Stanford Redwood City Campus, however this position will be performed completely online and requires you to have the ability, technology, and appropriate tools to successfully perform all job duties online. You must be located within the United States of America. Stanford OHS seeks a dynamic English Instructor temporarily to teach one up to four sections of middle school or high school English classes. You will meet with each section of students twice a week on a college-style schedule to engage in discussion of the course material. You will be encouraged to bring your advanced subject-level expertise to the class, challenging students in ways not typically found in middle or high school.
Job Responsibilities:
Prepare for class, lead synchronous online discussions section, and assist students in using course materials. Must be available within time ranges established at the beginning of the term.
Monitor student progress, give feedback, grade assessments, maintain gradebook, and discuss performance with students, their families, and OHS administrative staff.
Hold weekly office hours with students.
Other duties as assigned.
To be successful in this position, you will bring:
Master's degree (or equivalent coursework) in English, Comparative Literature or related discipline. Ph.D. in English, Comparative Literature or related discipline preferred.
At least one year experience teaching at the middle school, high school, college level, or equivalent.
A reliable home internet connection and the ability to maintain communication with the Department, students, and parents as required and using technology as directed by the Department.
Strong communication skills to clearly and effectively communicate information to internal and external audiences, students and parents.
Facility with teaching online courses.
Familiarity with Canvas, PowerSchool, and Adobe Connect online platforms..
