Georgetown Day School seeks a Lower School Physical Education teacher from August 2026 - June 2027. The successful candidate will be a thoughtful and inspiring educator, keen to work with colleagues, Lower School students (PK-Grade 4), and their parents in a highly collaborative, inclusive, future-focused learning environment.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

In collaboration with the Lower School physical education team, oversight of the curriculum and teaching four sections of physical education to students in the Lower School. Establish a learning environment that fosters joy in physical movement and develops the knowledge and understanding of the benefits of participating in physical activity.

Use SHAPE standards to guide planning, instruction, and assessment

Commitment to leveraging effective, research-informed instructional practices and teaching through a lens of equity and inclusion

Familiar with, and committed to, the use of positive behavior interventions and supports.

Continual use of assessment data (diagnostic, standardized, formative and summative) to inform teaching and improve learning, and to set individual learning goals.

Set up and take down of physical education equipment
Additional Duties and Responsibilities

Potential Department Chair-related opportunity and related responsibilities

Serve as an Athletic Coach for at least two seasons with the GDS Athletics program

Offer student support outside of class

Engage and communicate with parents

Meet regularly with department, grade-level teams, and attend divisional meetings

Attend grade-level trips as assigned.

Accomplish all tasks as appropriate.

Other duties outside this description may be assigned as necessary.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
-
Bachelor’s degree required with a specialization in Physical Education and or Elementary Education preferred
-
Master’s degree in a related field preferred
-
Physical Education teaching experience preferred
-
2 or more years of teaching experience working with Lower School students (PK-Grade 4) preferred
