At St. Mark’s, we believe that true learning happens in a community built on trust, respect, and belonging. We’re seeking an Associate Dean of Students / Director of Community and Equity who will champion these values by fostering a vibrant, inclusive student life experience. This is a key leadership role that blends vision, empathy, and strategy to help all students feel seen, supported, and inspired to engage across differences.
As a faculty member and community leader, you’ll play an integral role in shaping daily life at St. Mark’s. You’ll serve as the VI Form (senior) Dean, teach one class, coach one season, and advise a small group of students helping them navigate their St. Mark’s journey with confidence and purpose.
What You’ll Do
You will be a leader, collaborator, and community builder. Your work will include:
Partnering with the Dean of Students to shape the vision and strategy for community life and equity
Overseeing and mentoring the Assistant Deans of Students in their program areas
Leading initiatives that foster belonging and connection across all perspectives and identities
Championing viewpoint diversity and intellectual pluralism to ensure students experience expressive freedom with generosity, courage, and civility
Supporting affinity groups and cross-cultural initiatives that promote dialogue and understanding
Overseeing the Incident Report Support System in collaboration with the Director of Human Resources
Collaborating with the Dean of Academics on pedagogy and curriculum development that reflect inclusive excellence
Partnering with the Dean of Faculty to advance equitable and inclusive hiring practices
Advising and supporting students and families throughout their St. Mark’s experience
Contributing fully to community life by teaching 1 academic class, coaching 1 season of co-curricular activities or athletics, advising, and participating in residential responsibilities
Why You’ll Love It Here
A mission-driven community rooted in connection and purpose
Opportunities to influence school culture and make meaningful change
A close-knit campus where collaboration and creativity thrive
Generous benefits, including housing, meals, health coverage, and tuition remission
Daily chances to make a difference—in the classroom, the dorm, and beyond
What We’re Looking For
Extensive experience working with students and leading or mentoring faculty in educational settings
Proven administrative experience, particularly in schools or similar environments
Strong strategic thinking and organizational skills, with the ability to manage complex systems and multiple projects
A demonstrated commitment to inclusion, belonging, and viewpoint diversity
Excellent leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills
Ability to manage confidential information with discretion and integrity
A collaborative spirit and capacity to work effectively within teams
Enthusiasm, energy, and a genuine belief in the potential of every student
St. Mark's School is a coed, private boarding high school of approximately 375 students with a strong, college preparatory curriculum located 22 miles west of Boston and 12 miles east of Worcester. St. Mark's School educates young people for lives of leadership and service. Founded in 1865 as an intentionally small residential community, the School challenges its students to develop their particular analytic and creative capabilities by both inspiring their academic and spiritual curiosity and kindling their passion for discovery. We value cooperation over self-interest, and we encourage all members of our community to explore their place in the larger world beyond our campus.
St. Mark’s School provides equal employment opportunities (EEO) to all employees and applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, gender, age, sex, sexual orientation, disability or genetics, and any other characteristic or status protected by law. This commitment is exemplified in numerous ways, such as our welcoming Chapel program, our Pathways Program which houses multiple student-centered affinity spaces, and the intersectional work within our office of Communit...y and Equity and Global Studies programs. The School values flexible educators who possess an optimistic, growth-oriented mindset regarding learning, both for themselves and their students.
