The New Community School empowers bright, talented students in grades 5-12, who are challenged by dyslexia and related language-based learning differences. The innovative and research-based college preparatory curriculum utilizes a customized educational approach to build skills in language and math and to foster academic and personal strengths - igniting the passions and gifts of unique minds.
The New Community School is currently hiring a Student Life Coordinator for the 2026-2027 school year.
The Student Life Coordinator plays a key role in fostering a vibrant, inclusive, and supportive student experience. Working closely with both the Middle School and Upper School Directors, this position serves as the primary point person for student life and engagement initiatives. The Student Life Coordinator supports programs and structures that strengthen students’ sense of belonging, connection, and community, while ensuring continuity of support when division directors are not available.
This role requires flexibility, collaboration, and a student-centered mindset. The Student Life Coordinator works closely with faculty, counselors, and administrators to create meaningful experiences that support student growth and connection across the school community.
Core Responsibilities:
Student Life & Engagement
Serve as the primary coordinator for student life and engagement across the Middle and Upper School divisions.
Help plan, organize, and support flex programming, student clubs, assemblies, traditions, celebrations, and community-building initiatives.
Support the Student Advisory Board, including meeting facilitation, student leadership development, and communication with school leadership.
Assist with the planning and coordination of field trips and experiential learning opportunities.
Community & Belonging
Work collaboratively with the DEIB Coordinator to support inclusive programming and foster a culture of belonging.
Develop and support initiatives that strengthen community, connection, and student voice.
Foster a positive school climate grounded in respect, learning, and health and safety..
Be a visible and approachable presence for students throughout the school day.
Partnership & Leadership
Work closely with the Middle School and Upper School Directors to ensure alignment of student engagement efforts with divisional goals.
Serve as a point of contact for students, families, and faculty when division directors are not available, addressing routine issues and escalating concerns as appropriate.
Support school-wide events and initiatives that strengthen community connection and alumni engagement.
Support consistent communication and follow-through related to student life and engagement matters.
Serve on the Safety Team, Student Support Team, and Grade Level Lead Team.
Minimum Qualifications
The ideal candidate must possess:
Bachelor’s degree required; degree in education, counseling, or a related field preferred.
Deep commitment to adolescent development and student engagement.
Experience working with middle and/or upper school students; experience in an independent school environment is preferred.
Strong understanding of adolescent development and student engagement practices.
Strong relational skills and a demonstrated ability to build trust with students, families, and colleagues.
Excellent organizational, communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills.
Commitment to inclusive practices and supporting diverse learners.
Reports to Divisional Directors.
Salary Information: Salary is commensurate with experience.
