The Opportunity Operating residential programs year-round, The Residential Life Coordinator (RLC) will work closely with the Director of Student Life (DSL), other residential staff, and student leaders, and the KMS Leadership Team to deliver our residential program. The RLC keeps the health, safety and thriving of our residential students in the forefront while fostering community and promoting a culture of Respect, Integrity, Leadership and Responsibility (KMS’ Core Values - RILER). In partnership with the DSL, the RLC is responsible for managing the residential program.
The Candidate The successful candidate will be a hands-on, student-centered leader with an understanding of residential life in a school setting. The RLC will bring joy to their work with students, families and colleagues, building trusting relationships through strong organization, communication and follow through.
Job Title: Residential Life Coordinator Supervisor: Director of Student Life Job Type: Full-Time, year-round, exempt
Responsibilities: -In partnership with DSL, deliver and manage KMS Residential Program: The RLC will supervise the dorm mid-week and on weekends and will have 2 days off weekly as determined by the residential staffing schedule, though coverage of the dorm on the weekend is required. -Work with DSL to design and implement residential programming and activities. Students should have both midweek and weekend opportunities for off-campus outings. -Explain, model and enforce expectations laid out in the Community Handbook and specifically those related to residential life. -Serve as DSL second chair for disciplinary processes, especially those related to residential life. -Work with DSL and School Nurse to ensure prompt residential student medication distribution and recording by residential staff. -Often handle external and internal communication related to residential life in coordination with DSL. -Support Ursus Cadre Student Leadership Program, including the planning and delivery of Ursus Cadre Orientation at the start of the school year. -Participate in Residential Staff Meetings. -During the summer, the RLC will continue to provide residential supervision of on campus camps, and work with the Director of Student Life and Summer Programs Coordinator to ensure that all residential participant needs are met for all on campus summer programs such as: --Ensuring camp drop off and pick-ups are planned and completed. --Ensure that afternoon activities are planned and staffed for all camps, either by RLC or other residential staff. -Work with DSL and Director of Admissions to ensure appropriate dorm capacity in the dorm is maintained for all programs during the school year. -Communicate with DSL and Assistant Head of School for any facility maintenance needs in residential spaces. -Work with the Director of Student Life on dorm room assignments. Work with buildings and grounds to ensure that the building is prepared for all incoming and outgoing programs, including summer programs. -Assist with the planning and execution of dorm closures and openings for every KMS Program (Full Term, Winter Term, BOOST, Summer Programs), and the orientation periods for each program. -Participate on the KMS Wellness Team as the residential voice, assisting with the planning and execution of student life all-school events and influencing the direction and implementation of health & wellness programming at KMS. -Work with Director of Student Life to manage student Orah use on a daily basis. Serve as the point of contact for parents/guardians needing to make arrangements for their residential students (travel, appointment absence etc.) Facilitate transportation of all students to appointments, airports etc, whenever possible. Communicate residential student absences with teachers, coaches and kitchen staff.
-Participate in morning shuttle rotation during the Winter Term -Reside full time in the school provided housing. -Participate in all community events, required faculty activities and meetings. -Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School, Assistant Head of School, or DSL.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree (preferred) and experience in residential life programming, child care, camp counselor, or other related fields. Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal skills. Proficiency with Google Suite and Salesforce is a plus. Proven success in developing and implementing student activities, orientation programming, and student support/discipline. Versed in Social-Emotional Learning. Ability to motivate and develop student leaders. Possess the flexibility and initiative to work independently and thrive in a fast paced environment. High professional discretion in handling confidential information. Willingness to travel, work evenings, weekends, and occasional irregular hours, both onsite and offsite. Ability to pass fingerprinting and background checks. Must obtain a VT State Type II Bus License upon hiring.
Compensation and Benefits: This is a full-time, year-round, exempt position with benefits including a 401k retirement plan after one year of employment, health insurance, HSA, discounted season pass to Killington/Pico, generous vacation and holiday PTO per the academic calendar, and facility access for meals and gym. Potential tuition remission for qualifying dependent children after one year of employment. On-campus housing is provided and required as a condition of this role.
