The Role.The Miami Valley School is seeking a lower school teacher committed to developing critical and creative thinkers who collaborate and communicate effectively. This new faculty member will be joining a team that strives to represent the diversity of the MVS community by creating and implementing culturally inclusive and responsive curricula as well as demonstrating a teaching proficiency and comfort with a variety of different teaching and learning styles.
The Lower School Classroom Teacher must be a passionate and skillful teacher, who is eager to invest his/her talents in our lower school program. They must establish a supportive and engaging environment for lower school students (grades 1-5), work collaboratively with colleagues and parents, have excellent communication skills, and demonstrate a desire to embrace the MVS Immersion Method™ into their teaching. In addition, this teacher will have completed coursework or possess teaching experience in specific subfields of elementary education (e.g. classroom/behavior management, social and emotional learning, child development, subject expertise etc.) related to his/her teaching responsibilities.

Collaborate as part of a World-Class Team. In your role teaching at MVS, you will work alongside dedicated faculty who have taught and learned all over the world and in a variety of school contexts. Your colleagues are artists, researchers, entrepreneurs, published authors, professional musicians, armed services veterans, and thespians. And of course, you will get to Teach! As a lower school teacher in grades 3-5 you will be the homeroom teacher for a 3rd to 5th grade class.
Demonstrate a commitment to culturally inclusive curricula and inclusive classroom practices
Demonstrate a lifelong appreciation for healthy and creative decision-making in their students
Build collaborative partnership with students, parents, and colleagues
Demonstrate an ability to develop rapport with students
Commit to lifelong learning through engagement in ongoing professional development
All faculty can expect to travel with students (grades 4-12) for 1-3 weeks per year;
Primary Responsibilities:
Teach a single grade classroom within grades 3-5
Lead/Co-lead 2 week winter immersion program
Develop and propose new units each year, including new immersion programs
Fulfill all other faculty responsibilities that may occur outside the school day, including writing progress reports and planning, attending school-related functions, which include but are not limited to: Caregiver Information Night (CIN), Caregiver-Teacher Conferences, Promotion Ceremonies, Graduation, annual Williamsburg trip.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Undergraduate or Master Degree in Education
Certificate in Elementary Education, preferred
Desire to work with lower school students in an experiential setting
