The Browning School is a K-12 boys school located on East 62nd Street (Lower and Middle Schools) and East 64th Street (Upper School) in midtown Manhattan, New York. Founded by scholar and teacher John A. Browning, The Browning School has been a leader in fostering the intellectual and personal growth of boys and young men since 1888. POSITION DESCRIPTION
Browning is searching for a part-time Middle School Math/Science Learning Support Specialist for the 2026-2027 academic year. The position will begin onAugust 31, 2026 and end on January 15, 2027, with a daily work schedule of 1:30-3:30pm. The expected salary range for this position is $14,000-17,000, commensurate with experience--an exact offer reflects a candidate’s relevant experience, skill level, and the responsibilities of the role.A bachelor’s degree or considerable experience in the role is required, while an advanced degree in a related field is preferred. Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States.
Key Responsibilities
The part-time Middle School Math/Science Learning Support Specialist will support our diverse population of students in Grades 6 to 8 to navigate our academically challenging curriculum. Reporting to the Middle School Learning Specialist and working closely with the Middle School Student Support Team to serve students in partnership with faculty and families in our school community, with an emphasis on low-performing students, students with learning differences, and students who have yet to develop a full complement of organizational and study skills. Among other things, they are tasked with:
Supporting students 1:1 and in small group settings in all core content areas based on learning differences and needs, with a particular focus on math and science support.
Providing math and science classroom teaching support based on program needs.
Coordinating and proctoring testing in coordination with faculty, communicating and collaborating with faculty around appropriate accommodations and learning needs.
Communicating with teachers, families, and outside professionals regarding the performance and needs of students; maintaining documentation based on school protocols
Teaching study skills, organizational skills, and executive functioning lessons to groups of Middle School students.
Creating, adapting, and organizing supplemental instructional materials to support students requiring accommodation.
Heartily contributing to the school community.

A successful Middle School Math/Science Learning Support Specialist will possess most or all of the following:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in education, mathematics, science or a related field
Strong background in math and science content knowledge, with experience teaching or tutoring up to at least Algebra I
Versatility and flexibility both within and outside of the classroom, with proven experience of helping middle school aged boys access content, develop executive functioning skills, embrace failure, work collaboratively, and communicate effectively with others.
Ability to create a warm and productive learning environment for all students
Understanding and appreciation of teaching students from a wide range of cultures and backgrounds
Excellent communication skills, including the ability to proactively collaborate with students, faculty, and parents
Refined writing and organizational skills
Familiarity with Math in Focus, Pearson Algebra 1, NGSS Science Standard, and MAP testing highly preferred
Experience working as a learning specialist or teaching experience in a special education setting highly preferred
