Description:
All Lower School Head Teachers need to be experienced and empathetic educators who can work collaboratively with Learning Specialists. Lower School Head Teachers are responsible for leading Morning Meeting and teaching Slingerland, ELA, Math, and Social Studies. Teachers should understand the social/emotional needs of all students, and set up their classroom to support a calm learning environment with access to a space to support regulation.

Responsibilities:
Student Well-Being ~
Create and maintain a climate of trust and positive regard for students
Support the social/emotional needs of our students by implementing SEL or Mindfulness curriculum throughout the day
Demonstrate commitment to equitable and culturally responsive teaching practices
Instruction and Assessment ~
Teach Slingerland, ELA, Math and Social Studies, providing standards-based instruction
Collaborate with the Learning Specialist with respect to the scope and sequence of the curriculum
Present content in a multi-sensory, explicit fashion while providing scaffolding where needed
Assess each student's progress and complete quarterly Progress Reports
Plan field trips that support learning
Work in conjunction with Learning Specialist to identify students who may be ready to transition
Parent Communication ~
Communicate regularly with all parents regarding progress and classroom events
Lead Parent/Teacher conferences twice a year
School Culture ~
Attend school activities
Participate in cohort’s outdoor education experience
Attend weekly staff meetings and Lower School team meetings
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Education or related field
Two years of formal classroom experience working with children
Proficiency with technology
Trained in the Slingerland Approach or willingness to be trained prior to first year of teaching
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience teaching students that fit our profile
Single Subject Teaching Credential – Reading/Literacy or Math
Multiple-Subject Credential
Master of Arts in Special Education (Mild/Moderate)
Training in some form of multi-sensory Math instruction
Training in Responsive Classroom and Zones of Regulation
