								<description>Atlanta, Georgia,  We&#39;re seeking a passionate, intellectually curious history teacher who loves working with adolescents and sees the study of history as essential to understanding ourselves, our communities, and our world. You&#39;ll teach some combination of history and social studies courses from 9th through 12th grade, in a collaborative department that values rigorous inquiry, diverse perspectives, and student-centered learning. You&#39;ll design engaging curriculum, facilitate meaningful discussions, challenge students to think critically about primary sources, and help them see themselves as historians - asking questions, analyzing evidence, and constructing arguments about the past and its relevance today. 
 Classification:  Full-Time, 10-month position Start Date:  August 2026 Schedule: Standard school day Reports To:&#xa0; Upper School Division Head 
 What You&#39;ll Do 
 Inspire Historical Thinking &#38; Civic Engagement 
 You&#39;ll teach 4 sections of history/social studies courses (15-18 students each, 2-3 preps) designed to engage, challenge, and inspire students. 
 
 Design purposeful, inquiry-based curriculum  that helps students develop historical thinking skills: sourcing, contextualizing, corroborating, and constructing evidence-based arguments 
 Use multi-modal instruction  to reach diverse learners - discussions, Socratic seminars, primary source analysis, simulations, debates, projects, and writing 
 Create assessments  that measure deep understanding, critical thinking, and skill development (not just memorization) 
 Develop a classroom culture of belonging  where all students feel valued, heard, and challenged to grow - honoring diverse perspectives and experiences 
 Provide regular, timely feedback  on student work that pushes thinking forward 
 Communicate informatively with parents  and write thoughtful mid-semester comments for every student 
 Conduct afternoon tutorials  (Monday-Thursday) and optional morning tutorials by appointment to support student learning 
 
 Mentor &#38; Advise Students 
 Beyond the classroom, you&#39;ll serve as an advisor to approximately 10 students, providing academic guidance, pastoral care, and daily connection. 
 
 Serve as primary academic advisor  and point of contact for parents 
 Lead daily advisory meetings  to open the school day with your advisees 
 Conduct mid-semester student-parent conferences  to discuss progress and goals 
 Attend assemblies and chapels  with your advisory group each rotation 
 Build meaningful relationships  that help students navigate academic, social, and personal growth

 Engage in co-curricular activities : coach a sport, direct a play, sponsor a club, or take on other Upper School responsibilities

 Key Responsibilities 
 
 Teach 5 sections of middle school social studies (grades 6&#8211;8) 
 Deliver engaging, project-based and experiential instruction
