The special education teacher designs and implements individualized education programs for students with autism, ages TK–22, in a non-public school setting under the direction of the Director. This role includes assessment, supervision, and program planning; monitoring and evaluating student progress toward IEP goals and reduction of problem behavior; and identifying and developing instructional materials and protocols that promote skill acquisition, student success, and independence in the school environment. The teacher utilizes a variety of teaching methodologies grounded in Applied Behavior Analysis and positive programming and works collaboratively with the entire campus team to support an effective, rewarding experience for both students and staff.
Essential Job Functions:
Work directly with children with autism using identified curricula and assessment tools to meet each student’s individual needs.
Support, supervise, and implement lessons developed for the classroom, ensuring high-quality instruction for assigned students.
Use a variety of teaching methodologies grounded in positive programming to promote learning and skill acquisition.
Assist in identifying classroom staff strengths and opportunities for growth and provide guidance and feedback under the direction of the immediate supervisor.
Monitor students’ progress through direct observation, data review, and probes, and adjust instruction in collaboration with the classroom/school team.
Adapts lesson plans and curriculum to meet the individualized goals, needs, and IEP objectives of each student in the classroom.
Assist students with toileting, feeding, and other personal care needs, as required.
Monitor, prompt/teach, and reinforce health and safety behaviors (for example, handwashing, maintaining a clean workspace, walking in designated areas) across settings throughout the school day.
Plan and prepare special activities, including developing materials and lessons tailored to individual student needs.
Work collaboratively with parents, DIS providers, and agency representatives under the direction and support of the immediate supervisor.
Support and model appropriate student interactions, using positive reinforcement and the least restrictive strategies to manage behavior in alignment with behavior intervention plans.
Monitor student engagement during leisure activities to support safety, participation, and social opportunities.
Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly learning environment.
Respond to parent concerns with professionalism and clarity, under the support and guidance of the immediate supervisor.
Participate as an active member of an interdisciplinary team, collaborating across roles to support student outcomes.
Provide direct supervision, support, and direction to lead instructional assistants and instructional assistants within the classroom.
Collaborates/follows/supports all Ancillary Departments (e.g., BCBA, OT, Speech) instruction directives for the benefit of the student and LPC Program.
Follow all company policies and procedures as outlined in the Team Member Handbook and other written documents.
Performs other related duties, as assigned.
Minimum Education or Training Equivalent to:
90 semester units from a regionally accredited four-year college/university, required
In good standing with CCTC and other licensing/certification boards related to the position as an Special Education Teacher

Passion for teaching children and adolescents with disabilities, particularly students diagnosed within the autism spectrum.

Ability to maintain appropriate confidentiality and always protect student rights.
Possession of an appropriate teaching credential or a bachelor’s degree with current enrollment in a Moderate/Severe credential program; must maintain a valid Moderate/Severe Teaching Credential (as applicable).
Minimum of two years of experience working with children/adolescents diagnosed within the autism spectrum.
Consistently demonstrates good judgment and decision-making skills.
Exercises confidentiality and discretion regarding student personal and health information, sharing only the minimum necessary information with those directly involved and in appropriate contexts.
Appropriately interprets and implements policies, procedures, and regulations.
Sensitive and responsive to working with culturally, ethnically, linguistically, and economically diverse populations.
Communicates effectively in person and in writing; American Sign Language or bilingual ability is a plus.
Demonstrates strong leadership skills to educate, train, motivate, empower, reinforce, influence, coach, provide feedback, and effectively manage conflict.
Proactively requests assistance, training, or support from the immediate supervisor when there is a lack of student progress for two weeks, when facing staffing issues, or when personal/professional challenges may impact performance, and follows through on agreed-upon solutions.
Knowledgeable and skilled in basic computer use, word processing software, and internet-based tools.
Maintains all required training(s), which may include state- or funder-specific training(s) such as CPR, AED, First Aid for adults/children/infants, physical management training (as applicable), and Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training.
Maintains reliable transportation and provides proof of a valid driver’s license, current auto insurance, vehicle registration, and a clean DMV record; no convictions or pending DUI prior to or during employment with Kadiant.
Must clear DOJ/FBI background check and exclusion screening processes prior to and throughout employment.
