The Harker School seeks to hire a highly qualified individual for a full-time position as the Director of Global & Experiential Education.
Position Summary
The Director of Global & Experiential Education oversees all aspects of Harker’s global travel program and grade-level trips, including trip development, research, and risk management. The Director ensures clear and timely communication among students, parents, faculty, and administrators, and provides comprehensive risk management training for all chaperones. This role also establishes consistent chaperone expectations and risk management training and upholds a uniform standard of quality across all Harker trips, both international and domestic.

Qualifications
Demonstrated experience and knowledge in risk management and safety protocols.
Proven experience in international and domestic travel planning and execution, including program design, logistics, and implementation at a high level.
Experience training and communicating effectively with adults, including chaperones and parents, and ensuring clarity of expectations.
Experience teaching and engaging with students in grades K–12.
Curriculum development and integration experience strongly preferred, particularly as it relates to trip design and enhancement.
Advanced degree preferred.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Global Travel and Relationships
Lead and attend all global education trips, including program planning, research, risk assessment, budgeting, and recruitment of students and chaperones.
Coordinate and lead parent and student meetings related to global travel.
Manage all legal and logistical documentation for each global trip, including verification of student medical information, coordination of itineraries, flights, lodging, meals, and transportation, as well as obtaining visas and maintaining trip budgets.
Cultivate, evaluate, and enhance relationships with international partner schools and travel providers to ensure program excellence. This may include phasing out existing programs and developing new ones that better meet institutional goals.
Maintain a strong & collaborative relationship with Tamagawa School & other partner schools abroad, including overseeing K–5 exchange activities such as kindergarten video conferences & hosting visiting delegations.
Organize and coordinate schedules and hospitality for visiting international school groups, including but not limited to those from Tamagawa School.
Domestic Travel
Collaborate on planning the 6th-, 7th-, and 8th-grade grade-level trips, working closely with Harker’s travel partner (Academic Expeditions) and the Assistant Head of Middle School.
Chaperone one middle school trip annually, with the expectation of serving as trip lead for one of the three trips in future years.
General Responsibilities
Lead annual chaperone training for all Harker trips, including sessions on risk management and chaperone expectations.
Develop & maintain a Chaperone Expectations Handbook to ensure clarity & consistency across all trips.
Oversee the Global & Experiential Education department budget.
Serve as a resource for all school-related travel, both domestic and international.
Serve as a point of contact for parents and students for all global education trips.
Maintain complete and organized records for all global trips.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Exceptional communication skills with students, parents, teachers, administrators, and external partners.
Strong organizational skills and keen attention to detail.
Proficiency with technology platforms and digital tools relevant to travel management and communication.
Ability to engage in extensive walking and travel, including international destinations.
Working Conditions
Ability and willingness to travel internationally for approximately 8–10 weeks per year, in addition to some domestic travel.
Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.
Extended travel and work outside the United States are essential components of this role.
