Job Summary:
As a Lower School Science Teacher, your primary role is to cultivate scientific curiosity and understanding in young learners across the Lower School grades (PreK3 - 5th). The Lower School Science Teacher will develop and implement engaging, hands-on science lessons and projects, fostering a love for exploration and discovery in students. This position is an enrichment class, meeting with each grade 1-2 times per week and covering a wide range of science topics.
Qualifications:
Previous experience teaching science to elementary-aged children is strongly preferred.
A strong understanding of fundamental science concepts across various disciplines (e.g., life science, earth science, physical science).
Demonstrate the ability to effectively interact and communicate with children, parents, and colleagues.
Enthusiasm for science education and the ability to make complex topics accessible and engaging for young learners.
Creativity and flexibility in designing and adapting science curriculum and activities.
Ability to manage classroom materials and ensure a safe learning environment for hands-on experiments and projects.
Compensation:
Full-time employees are salaried based on experience and receive employer-sponsored benefits including medical, dental, and vision with 403(B) retirement, life insurance, annual bonuses, and more.
Education/Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Science, Education, or a related field required. Previous experience teaching science at the elementary level is highly desirable.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Curriculum Development and Instruction: Develop and implement engaging, hands-on science curriculum and lesson plans for students in PreK3 through 5th grade, aligning with relevant science standards and the school’s educational philosophy.
Enrichment Focus: Plan and deliver science enrichment activities that spark curiosity and deepen students' understanding of scientific concepts, building upon classroom learning.
Hands-on Learning: Facilitate active learning through experiments, investigations, projects, and real-world applications, such as replanting sugar pine seedlings, raising Cutthroat Trout, and the hydroponics farming experience.
Differentiated Instruction: Adapt teaching methods and materials to meet the diverse learning needs and interests of all students.
Classroom Management: Create and maintain a positive, organized, and safe learning environment conducive to scientific exploration and discovery.
Assessment of Student Learning: Assess student understanding of science concepts through various methods, providing timely and meaningful feedback to students and parents.
Communication and Collaboration: Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues regarding student progress, curriculum, and classroom activities. Collaborate with other teachers to integrate science concepts across the curriculum.
Resource Management: Organize and maintain science equipment, materials, and classroom resources effectively.
Professional Development: Stay current with best practices in science education and participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and knowledge.
Supervision and Safety: Ensure the safety of students during all science activities and experiments.
Passion for both hands-on science and working with children. Love of the outdoors will also be important.
Lake Tahoe School is a Pre-K through 8th-grade school located in Incline Village on the north shore of Lake Tahoe.
We provide a traditional core curriculum with a breadth and depth in each subject area that exceeds state and national standards. Our school day provides blocks of time not only for core subject areas but also for enrichment opportunities in Art, Music, MakerSpace, Spanish, and Physical Education.
