Excellent point—let me add that important piece:
Elementary Language Arts Teacher | Rawson Saunders School | Austin, Texas
Rawson Saunders School is seeking a passionate, skilled language arts teacher to join our team of exceptional educators who understand that dyslexic learners think differently—and brilliantly.
We're looking for someone who brings creativity and intentionality to teaching literature, writing, and language, who sees each student's unique learning profile as an opportunity rather than an obstacle, and who thrives in a collaborative environment where excellence and care go hand in hand.
What matters most:
Deep commitment to understanding how dyslexic learners engage with literature and express their ideas through writing
Dedication to crafting masterful, intentional lesson plans for every class, every day—we provide the planning time because we know this work matters
Skill in balancing multiple essential components—literature engagement, vocabulary development, critical thinking, writing instruction, and reading practice—within the language arts classroom
Willingness to learn and implement our structured, evidence-based approach to writing instruction (we provide comprehensive training)
Ability to make literature come alive across genres while helping students develop as critical thinkers and meaning-makers
Natural talent for creating a classroom where students feel safe sharing ideas, taking intellectual risks, and refining their thinking
Experience providing daily writing instruction and practice that builds student confidence and competence
Understanding that dyslexic students often have rich oral language and creative thinking that deserves to be honored and developed
Enthusiasm for small group instruction where you can truly know each learner
Strong collaboration skills—you'll work closely with our academic language therapists and other content area teachers as part of an integrated team
Dedication to your own growth through reflection, collaboration, and continuous learning
What you'll do:
Design and deliver masterful lessons that reflect careful planning and deep understanding of your students' needs
Provide daily, structured writing instruction and practice using our evidence-based approach
Guide rich discussions and explorations of literature that develop critical thinking and deepen comprehension
Build vocabulary knowledge through engaging, meaningful instruction connected to students' reading and writing
Provide reading practice and fluency development that builds on the structured literacy work happening with our therapists
Balance all the essential components of a language arts classroom—knowing what students need and when they need it
Collaborate with academic language therapists and content area teachers to support each student's growth across disciplines
Build genuine relationships with students and families, maintaining open communication about progress and celebrating growth
Work closely with colleagues and administration as part of a team committed to each student's success
Contribute to our culture of professionalism, inquiry, and shared excellence
