The Town School, a Nursery through 8th Grade school of 350 students on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, seeks an experienced Kindergarten through Fourth Grade teacher for the 2026-27 school year. The art program provides a rich curriculum using applied and fine arts, including both two- and three-dimensional work. A successful candidate will have both a passion for the subject matter and for teaching students with a wide range of abilities, ideally originating in their own creative practice. They should be able to provide technical instruction in an engaging manner, while at the same time fostering creativity and problem solving.
Town seeks a potential Lower School Art teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. The salary for this position is $68,000 - $115,200 *Base salaries do not reflect additional compensation based on degree level and stipends.
Major Responsibilities:
Collaborate in the design and implementation of integrated curriculum to continue an ongoing development of Nursery - 8th Grade art curriculum scope and sequence
Increase the skills set of elementary school students to further understand the visual arts and the role of the arts in other disciplines
Teach a variety of media including, but not limited to drawing, painting, printmaking, collage and ceramics
Maintain a working studio, including order of art supplies, storing and returning student work, maintaining the kiln and overseeing the firing of student ceramics
Install and maintain displays of Kindergarten and Lower School art work for the annual art show and throughout the school year.
Differentiate instruction to attend to the needs of individual children
Actively partner with parents and Guidance team to closely monitor and support student progress
Work collaboratively and professionally with specialists, grade-level, divisional, and school-wide colleagues for curriculum planning, student support, and mentoring
Communicate effectively with colleagues, parents, and administration
Work collaboratively with parent volunteers
Contribute constructively to all faculty discussions and continue to grow professionally (i.e. conferences, in-service training, current literature)
Fulfilling duties, responsibilities and commitments as assigned
Qualifications:
BA, BFA, or BS degree or an equivalent degree or educational qualification from an accredited college or university; MFA preferred
2-5 years full-time teaching experience in K-8 public or independent schools
Wide-ranging intellectual and educational interests and ability to commit to integrated curriculum
Strong communication and organizational abilities
Experience incorporating technology in support of student learning
