The Ellis School, the only pre-kindergarten to grade 12 independent all-girls day school in Pittsburgh, PA, is seeking a full-time Learning Specialist beginning in August 2025. Responsibilities include supporting student learning and promoting academic success for students in Middle and Upper School. Other duties, including—but not limited to—proctoring study halls, chaperoning, and committee work are integral to the role of Middle and Upper School faculty members.
Qualifications
Undergraduate studies in education or a related field are required, a Master’s degree in Special Education, Educational Psychology, or a related field is preferred. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in learning differences, a passion for working with children, and a commitment to partnering with teachers and families in a team-oriented environment. Preference will be given to candidates with experience working in a school setting. The candidate must also have knowledge of a range of learning differences, including dyslexia, ADHD, and executive functioning challenges, a strong understanding of child development, learning theory, and evidence-based interventions, and excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide individualized and small-group academic support for students with diagnosed or suspected learning differences
Conduct informal assessments to identify learning needs and monitor progress
Collaborate with faculty to implement differentiated instruction and effective learning strategies within the classroom
Serve as a resource for teachers on instructional strategies, classroom accommodations, and educational best practices
Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and support plans
Maintain detailed and confidential records of student services
