Position Overview Sterne School seeks a Middle School Science Teacher for the 2025–2026 school year who is passionate about engaging neurodiverse learners in hands-on, inquiry-based science instruction. The ideal candidate will be committed to curriculum development aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), bring experience with or interest in OpenSciEd, and enthusiastically support the academic and social-emotional growth of middle school students.
This is a full-time teaching position that also includes active participation in student life and community engagement.
Key Responsibilities
Design and implement NGSS-aligned science instruction for grades 6–8
Utilize or adapt OpenSciEd curriculum to meet the needs of diverse learners
Create and facilitate hands-on, project-based, and inquiry-driven learning experiences
Differentiate instruction to support neurodiverse learners, including students with learning differences such as dyslexia, ADHD, and processing challenges
Integrate diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) principles into classroom culture and curriculum
Use a variety of formative and summative assessments to track student progress and guide instruction
Collaborate with colleagues on cross-curricular projects and interdisciplinary planning
Participate in school community activities including student clubs, field trips, advisory, and school events
Communicate effectively with families, colleagues, and students to support learning and growth
Serve as a middle school advisor, providing mentorship and fostering connection
Engage in ongoing professional development focused on science pedagogy, DEI, and differentiated instruction
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in science, education, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred)
Experience teaching middle school students
Familiarity with OpenSciEd and its integration with NGSS
Demonstrated commitment to and experience with neurodiversity-informed teaching practices
Passion for hands-on learning and creating inclusive, student-centered classroom environments
Strong collaboration, communication, and organizational skills
Enthusiasm for working in a small, close-knit school community
