St. James’ Episcopal School is looking for a full-time Preschool Director beginning July 1, 2026. This is a 12-month exempt position. The successful candidate will take a student-centered approach to all school work and will use the School’s mission to support the academic, extracurricular, social, and emotional success of students.
The Preschool Director:
manages the daily operations, 8:00-4:30, of the 2-3 year old programs at the Gramercy Place site and the Kindergarten Readiness Program at the Elementary campus..
is responsible for compliance with CDSS Child Care Regulations (title 22, division 12)
supervises the implementation of curriculum, instruction, and assessment for all Preschool programs.
provides faculty oversight, mentorship, and support for the Preschool teachers in collaboration with the Assistant Head of School for Early Childhood Education.
supports Preschool teachers in the preparation and delivery of progress reports, family conferences, report cards, including reading all narratives.
works with the Senior Administration Team to organize Back to School night, Spring Family evening, Preschool holiday celebration and other School events.
Overseas communicates with families about the program.
supervises time cards for hourly employees in preschool and in-house subs.
is a member of the Admission Committee and supports Admissions efforts such as Open Houses, tours, etc.
assists in the hiring of Preschool faculty.
Candidates must meet the following requirements:
a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university with a major or emphasis in early childhood education or child development, with a masters preferred.
a Site Supervisor Permit or Program Director Permit.
at least one year of teaching experience in a licensed child care center.
completion of (15) semester or equivalent quarter units at an accredited university:
(3) units must be in administration or staff relations and (12) units must include courses that cover the general areas of child growth and development; child, family & community; and program/curriculum.
Shall complete 16 hours of health and safety training.

St. James’ Episcopal School is looking for a Part-Time School Chaplain beginning in August of 2026. This is a 10-month, non-exempt position requiring weekday availability. The successful candidate will take a student-centered approach to all school work and will use the School’s mission to support the academic, extracurricular, social, and emotional success of students.
The School Chaplain:
teaches Religion class to students in four grades ranging from K-6, including:
sharing the teaching responsibilities with the Head of School and the Rector of St. James’-in-the-City.
teaching the Godly Play curriculum in grades K-4.
coordinates the Chapel and Assembly schedule with the Senior Administration team.
plans the weekly Chapel, including creating and printing the bulletin, with the help of the Assistant Head of School for Systems & Matriculation.
preaches regularly at Chapel, creating the preaching rotation to include other speakers.
works with the Senior Administration Team to organize the Elementary School Christmas Pageant and Preschool holiday celebration.
performs other duties as assigned by the Head of School or her designee.
...reports to the Head of School.
