English Faculty Position
(full-time, exempt)

Tilton School faculty design learning experiences that build the essential student skills and sensibilities they will need to be life-ready.  As such, we seek a compelling, passionate, and visionary educator to teach four-five sections of English in our Humanities Division. Humanities courses at Tilton center on critical thinking, reading, writing, and discussion skills. Students emerge as critical and creative problem solvers, able to apply these human dimensions and dynamics to current events. Empowered in this way, our students cultivate a nuanced, global, and well-informed world view. As a residential school, Tilton considers the work of faculty
broadly, and we engage with students both during and beyond the academic day. Faculty at Tilton can expect to contribute two seasons in the co-curricular and/or athletic program and to be responsible for weekly evening and monthly weekend supervisory duties. This position can include housing.

Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate:

• possess an understanding of current teaching pedagogies and adolescent development
• model flexibility in both implementing best learning practices and pursuing success for each student, including a commitment to providing timely and transparent feedback and grading

• demonstrate fluency with academic technology that advances learning for students and a willingness to integrate technology into classroom experiences
• enjoy collaborating with colleagues within and across subject areas, and all aspects of school life
• invest in the community and participate in the lives of our students outside of the classroom convey patience, empathy, enthusiasm, and optimism in their work with adolescents and faculty
• possess excellent interpersonal, communication (writing, listening, speaking), and organizational skills, and exhibit the ability to interact and work effectively with students, parents, faculty and other employees
• commit to self-reflection, work independently, and pursue professional growth and networking opportunities that will allow for full engagement in discovering and implementing best practices in this role

Other duties for this position include: advising, participation as an athletic coach or activities leader for two seasons each year and active participation in our residential program including weeknight-weekend supervision. This position can include housing.

Qualifications
Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
Preferred: Experience in residential oversight and/or secondary or post-secondary instruction
